I have to say furniture is not worth much unless its hard to find, antique or a very high-end brand. My DH's grandmother moved to Florida and we had to get rid of all her furniture. The furniture was in good condition and decent brands (broyhill, kushman colonial creations, ethan allen) etc. After advertising on Craiglist, it was virtually impossible to sell for more than $100-$200 b/c it's such a pain to transport furniture. Many people who are looking for furniture bargains feel its not worth the hassle, especially when you can go to a inexpensive store, pay a couple of hundred dollars more and get the furniture delivered. My FIL made a custom 3 piece entertainment unit in solid hardwood- it's beautiful but big for our house. He sold it for $75 b/c it was too big to transport. I guess my point is that I would try not to overpay but still give her a fair price. Chances are if you don't buy it, she won't be able to sell it for much. Good Luck.

If I were in your daughter's position, I'd look up the going asking prices for similar items on Craigslist, then decide from there. But using our Craigslist as a guide, 50% off retail isn't even close to being realistic. In fact, with just a little bit of patience, I could probably buy new from the store for 50% of retail. Complete dining rooms around here go for around $500 - $800 -- nice ones. That bed looks like MANY I've seen in our city that go for around $300. You can even find some cheap ones NEW for $399 or so. However, for beds of that style, there's a HUGE range in quality, and it would be well worth her time to go to some Cheapo futniture stores, some Mid-market, and some upper end furniture stores and look closely to educate herself before buying a bed. High-quality, well-made furniture will age gracefully and retain much more of it's value than poorly-made furniture. I suspect we've all seen cheap furniture in stores that has corners bashed in or gouges taken out of the trim -- light wood or plastic showing through dark stains... One good 'knock' and the cheap piece of furniture depreciates to almost nothing! But in a better-quality piece, that same good knock would leave a small dent that fades gracefully into a gradual patina. There's enough 'good' furniture available on Craiglist that I wouldn't even bother with poorly-made stuff.

$15 is a good rate. We paid my 16 year old nephew $10 an hour to help with demo, the same rate he is paid to help some professional house flippers with demo. Moving furniture is a lot of work, so depending on the area you are in, that sounds good. We paid two movers $30 hour each to move us last year. We also threw in a little extra for the nephew's college fund. We live in a relatively low cost area of Texas.

Thanks Franksmom! I'm hoping that the wall color won't be too dark for her tree mural. I don't want to go too dark on the leaves. That bureau looks totally different from when I bought it for $10 or $15 7yrs ago. It was burnt orange w/ big wooden knobs. I bought new glass knobs and glued on the 2 wooden decals. DH found small wheels at his shop and put those on for me to raise the height to a more comfortable changing table height for us. Jerseygirl - well you know the adult rocker needs to have the seat reupholstered and I've been going back and forth between cream or blue. Maybe a print w/ both colors? Her curtains are a natural muslin color w/ pom pom trim and her bedding is almost he same color as the wall w/ a brown toile print and a cream matelasse quilt. Soft pink sheets. Bumblebeez - that is an excellent point about focal points and I didn't want to take away from the bureau by adding too many painted pieces.
