I don't think I bought enough!

When we were in Michigan this summer and again in the fall, I bought 3 three pound bags of wild rice. I don't think it was enough! I usually only use it for soup in the crock pot. A while back, I asked here how to cook it on it's own. I have 2 cups of rice in 6 cups of water and left over broth with a lg boullion cube in the pot. That leaves, maybe, 3 cups left in the first bag!

Some of what I am cooking now will go into chicken and rice casserole. Hopefully it will be something soft enough for him to eat later, as he is getting a cap put on a tooth right now. Dinner was his recommendation, thou it's usually "Meatloaf!" if I ask him what he wants, or "Food. Hot food" otherwise.

Tami, Sounds like a nice dinner. But you probably don't need to worry about whether the food is soft enough. Is a cap the same as a "Crown". I've never had a problem eating after having a tooth capped/crowned.

Ann, yes, it probably is the same as a crown. As he is having it done as I type, and it's already a bit after 4, he'll probably still be a little numb, when I finally get it finished, so I don't want anything that he has to chew a lot. As long as the chicken is tender the rest will be fine!

We grow a couple different varieties of white pumpkins each season and have grown Lumina....they can be a little touchy some seasons and we stopped growing them and moved onto better. Some of my favorite...Cotton Candy...they are nice round basketball sized pumpkins that grow on semi bush vines. We have grown these each year for past 6 yrs and always get good production. Also last year we began growing a white pumpkin called Valenciano...they are nice creamy white pumpkin that will get to be about 10 -12 pounds. They have quickly become my favorite and are pretty easy to grow and you get quite a few pumpkins off each vine. So don't give up on the white pumpkins...there are some better varieties out there. One thing also we have found that growing them next to corn or tall grass gives them the protection they need from the sun scorching them. Can find seeds thru Johnny's Seeds, Rupps Seeds or Reimer Seeds...

Tongue and groove ceiling is beautiful and good for you for not ruining it with canned lighting. My family's house was built in the late 1800's (about 4000 sq. ft. including additions over the years). Lots of natural light. NO recessed lighting was ever added in order to preserve the beautiful, pre-war architecture. The house is well lit with lamps, chandeliers, and old hanging fixtures. (ceilings are 9'6"). Undercabinet lighting was added in the kitchen. Obviously, you don't see it, but provides enough light for a large kitchen, PERFECT. We are currently building a fairly large, custom home. I told my architect several months ago that I wanted NO recessed lighting in the house, ANYWHERE. To help with lighting, i've added extra windows, hanging fixtures where necessary, sconces and undercabinet lighting in the kitchen for "task lighting". However, i am adding a lot of tongue and groove paneling (including ceiling) and i think recessed lighting is very distracting (even including recessed lighting in high end homes). Well placed fixtures and lamps where necessary seem to be enough lighting for me.

I'm glad to hear that the LED lights are working for you. It sounds like you have a much bigger space than we do, with only 2 more lights. I think this was perhaps our biggest mistake -- just too many of these lights. (As I mentioned, I was worried that LEDs wouldn't put out enough light). Maybe if we had only installed 4 of them, the amount of light would be ok. To reduce the number to 4 at this point would require completely re-placing the lights and rewiring. I wonder also if the increased number of lights in our smaller space is amplifying the effect of the flickering? i.e. maybe it wouldn't be noticeable if the lights were further apart? The housing and dimmer switch we have are both on the compatible list on the Cree website. All 7 of the lights are connected to the same dimmer switch. So I'm not sure what the problem is. When they are on at full power, they don't buzz or flicker. We had friends over yesterday and at full power they thought the lights looked great. (It wasn't too bright for them). Then I dimmed them and they didn't think the buzzing was too bad. They also didn't really notice much flickering. But then I started waving my arms around and they were shocked. The strobe effect when the lights were dimmed made my kitchen seem like a disco! Cbjmidwood, when you dim your lights and wave your arms around, is there any strobing?

I keep mine in a 50\50 cs,perlite mix and they are doing well,except a lighting issue, also have a kalanchoe in straight cactus soil and is one of the best looking plants in the house but has to be watered carefully. I'm still learning so I prob shouldn't be offering advice, but when I'm wrong I'll be corrected multiple times which is how I'll continue to learn and that's never a bad thing..enjoy your new plants!!! Tami, I agree, the supper sounds yummy. Like Ann T, I've had a crown (or several, I grind my teeth), and I've not usually had trouble eating afterward, at least not after the anesthetic wears off.

If he's getting a temporary, though, those can be problematic, the darned things always come off when I get them and you have to wait for the permanent one to come back from the lab or where ever it is they are making it.

Hope the hubs feels better fast!

I have chewed the inside of my cheek into a nasty sore....because I ate after getting a tooth crowned!!, While I was numb!
But having the crown set usually doesn't involve novacain, it's the prep that does,,,,and that results in a temporary....which can't take much chewing.
The wild rice casserole sounds wonderful....I love the stuff!!

The novacaine, or whatever they use on him doesn't usually last too long. In fact, they have to give him extra. It doesn't work on DD at all. I don't know if he's getting temp or the actual cap today. He didn't say. All I can smell is wild rice!

Annie if your temp crown comes off before your next appt you can coat the inside of the temp crown w/toothpaste and put it back on.It will only go on one way.The fluoride in the toothpaste will also help w/sensitivity.Avoid chewing on that side as much as possble.

Thanks, Shelley. When my temp crown comes off I walk right across the street to my dentist, we were kids together, and tell him he's a quack, he needs to fix it right before I get out the crazy glue.

That usually works, but I'm glad to know about the toothpaste trick in case of weekends when I can't find him!

Tami, my dear hubby loves meatloaf too. I am way overdue to cook one for him. Thanks for the reminder!

I would love to have your recipe for the chicken and rice casserole, as we love wild rice. I hope you can post it here.

Hope your dear hubby gets well soon! It's no fun trying to eat with a numb (or hurting) mouth.

Here you go, Mara!

Campbell's Cheesy Chicken & Rice

Prep: 5 min. Bake: 45 min.

1 Can (10 3/4 oz.) Cream of Chicken Soup
1 1/3 c. water
3/4 c. uncooked long grain white rice
2 c. fresh or frozen vegetables
1/2 t. onion powder
4 Skinless,boneless chicken breast halves
1/2 c. reduced fat shredded Cheddar cheese.

1. Stir soup, water, rice, vegetables, and onion powder in 12" x 8" shallow baking dish.

2. Top wit chicken. Season chicken as desired. Cover.

3. Bake at 375Â° F. for 45 min. or until done. Top with cheese. Makes 4 servings.

I made some wild rice and added that to it in addition to everything else. It was really good. I need to remember to make it in two foil pans next time. It's too much for just the two of us. DS is rarely home for dinner. We'll probably have the left overs tomorrow night, as I will be gone all day.

We had meatloaf tonight! With mashed potatoes and gravy, and some wild rice mixed with green beans, salt & pepper.

No problems with the tooth. DH is doing fine. By the time I had dinner ready, he was no longer numb.
