Jomax(found at Home Depot near the paint section) or Simple Green and clorex outdoor bleach. Mix about 1 pt of the jomax or simple green and 1 pt bleach to 3 quarts water. Should clean very well. I'm not sure what type of pw you have, but be careful with bleach. Bleach will destroy you pw pump. If you have a downstream chemical injection system(most homeowner models do), make sure you clean your hose wand, and nozzles as bleach can ruin those items as well. I would spray the solution using a garden hose sprayer attachment, then rise with the pw. Another option is to buy an x-jet for your pressure washer. I just found out about these kits. Its basically a special nozzle with a hose attached to it. You put the hose into you cleaning solution and install the nozzle onto you wand. That way you don't ruin your pw. I just bought a xjet for around 130 from Pressure Tek. I have to wait until it warms up around here, but this system has received good reviews on other sites. http://www.pressuretek.com/m5xjet.html

I'd try Capture powder. You can get it at Lowe's or Home Depot. Allergy companies also carry it, because it doesn't risk creating mildew in the carpet backing. I've used it on carpet and it did a decent job. A gallon bucket of it cost me somewhere in the $30-$40 range at Lowe's. They didn't carry the spray which you are supposed to mist the carpet with. I'm going to research whether that is really necessary. Anyway, it's a very gentle method, fast, and less labor-intensive.

Need a solution for cleaning construction-generated dust

I hope somebody else has a better answer for you (I'd love to know it!), but I have been hired to do post-remodel cleaning and I've a method, but no quick and easy tricks. The darn dust is so fine, that it gets into and onto everything. I start by removing any cloth that can be removed and taken outside to shake like heck and left hanging while I finish up inside. Begin high, dusting every ledge, molding, ceiling fan, fixture, the tops of cabinets etc. I have a tool that looks like a dry mop, but has a short handle. The rag mop head can be misted with just a very little bit of water or very dilute Murphy's oil soap to help it move dust off surfaces rather than simply pushing it around. A feather duster really doesn't do for this kind of dust as it does little more than send it airborne. Do this upper dusting in each room, and then return to the first room to dust the middle surfaces. Then do the same circuit to dust lower surfaces. The circuit method allows time for the dust you've stirred up to settle down on the next level under the one you just dusted. At the finish, you vacuum upholstered furniture and floors and then mop floors. And realize that you will still have a certain amount of dust, it's unavoidable. But this method, if you're careful to dust every surface, you'll get the worst of it. Dusting the walls is the worst for me, as it's tedious, but is generally only really necessary in the specific rooms where the remodel occurred. Yes, you'll have a certain amount of dust on the walls in other rooms, but it will slowly sift down and be dealt with in your normal cleaning routine. My advice, really? I know that having just spent what is probably a lot of money on the remodel, spending more hurts, but hire a professional to do it for you. Many contractors know people to refer (that's how I get these jobs, though I try not to do too many of them as it really is more work than I care for). Budget for two visits, about a week apart. You may decide after the first visit that you can live with the remaining dust level until it is taken care of by your regular cleaning routine, in which case you can cancel the second. Do this only after your contractor is completely done doing anything that would involve cutting tile or making holes in the ceiling/walls for fixtures etc, or you might just have to do it again.

Best solution to cleaning Tile

I bought the Force of Nature system. It is a small electric station, a spray bottle, the bottle for making the solution, and ampules of salt and vinegar that you buy. You fill the bottle with water, add the solution from one ampule, and set it onto the station. The bottle sits on the station, which has electrodes that the bottle hooks up with, and bubbles form as the electricity change the water, salt, and vinegar into the cleaning solution. It makes electrolyzed water like the e-water in a newer Toto toilet seat bidet. The hypochloric acid in the water smells like a pool enclosure for a chlorinated pool. It kills organisms by destroying the cell wall, so the mold, mildew, and germs that it kills cannot become acclimated to it. It is safe on your skin, too. It leaves no residue. I use it to clean all surfaces, including praying it on the floor to mop with.

This is just for whites - get a spray bottle - add dawn, clorox and water. works everytime and I have a B&B so it works for all kinds of stains -- just watch out that you don't spray it on anything else around, like yourself lol.

I make a homemade rug shampoo with equal parts hyrdogen peroxide ,water and liquid dish soap. Mix in a pitcher, pour on stains, rub with a soft brush. It lifts anything, just be sure to test your carpet first for color-fastness. But I know it works on ANYTHING an animal can do (including blood) and coffee and Coke stains. But you can't save the mixture. Anything you don't use immediately, you throw out.

Jannie how much liquid detergent do you add to the peroxide, water mixture not equal to the peroxide water combo right?

trisha, how much of each do you use? This sounds like just what I need for some stubborn stains...

Just to clarify-my rug shampoo recipe is one part water, one part peroxide, and one part dishwashing liquid (any kind). I start with the peroxide first, measure in a pitcher, doesn't have to be exact, then water, last the dish soap. It can get pretty foamy, I just use it on stains, not an entire carpet.

I've used the home-made laundry detergent full strength on carpet a few times now, It even completely cleaned off the chocolate pudding mix Sparky had spread all over the carpet.

I have had good luck with using the following recipe as an all purpose cleaner:

In a 24 ounce spray bottle:

1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol
1/4 cup of NON sudsing ammonia
3 drops Dawn liquid dish washing soap
Fill the rest of the bottle with water. Mix gently

The above 'recipe' gets used on my solid surface counter tops, fridge, stove, etc.

To lessen the odor of the NON sudsing ammonia I have found mint scented rubbing alcohol at Walmart. The used to carry orange scented but my store has discontinued stocking it.

Be sure to put a label the spray bottle as to what it is.

Like lisa-fla, I use the concentrated homemade laundry detergent on my carpet stains. My long-haired cat likes leaving fur-gifts on the carpet, and the stains come right out.
