Well your seller has an excellent reputation judging by the 100% reviews. The rugs sent out to others have all been perfect, if you read the reviews. I think it is a beautiful rug. Where do you want to put it ? How much do you want it ? Do you have the full price for the rug ? Are you ever going to get rid of it ? WIll it bring you joy when you see it each time you walk into the room ?

I have a lot of Orientals. I love them and enjoy them and never think about what I paid as they were /are for me. You must decide. c

Was going to go in the dining room, would probably keep the rug. Not sure if I want it that badly.

The price he wants is $1,700 still seems rather high for something made in India, as opposed to the middle east.

They had a similiar rug in IKEA a couple years ago in their catalog, but when I went to see it, it was totally different.

The rug on eBay is hand-knotted so I would say $1,700 doesn't seem unreasonable. Pottery Barn wants that much for a 3'x5'. I'm not a rug expert, though.

I will go with $1,500 at best. The size is odd and your chairs will scoot in and off it if you use the short side for your the chairs if this is a dining room piece. If you are putting this over a rug it won't matter as much. However, I stand by my price.

If that is too much hand them $1300. There is not that much detail on it which is what you want but the price is too high at almost $2,000. I have seen this rug before and think you must look carefully at the color and verify that color (maize) ask questions to make sure what you are bidding on. Good luck to you.

I agree with ellie that you can't use this rug under a table in your DR. It is an odd size. I have 2 rugs made in India that are hand knotted. They are room size and are wonderful. One is an animal Tabriz and quite unusual. It is under my DR table with lots of room to spare for chairs to be pulled in/out.

Perhaps you would be better served if you went and looked, first hand, at Orientals with a reputable dealer. Have your measurements in hand and colors. Good Luck. c

Because it is made in India doesn't mean that it is inferior and/or cheap. My DH went to India last year and brought back a much smaller very high quality silk rug ... I won't even say how much he paid! I don't like it and like it even less for the price he paid, lol. He has it in his office and is happy!

My dining room is about 9 x 11, so something in the 7', or 8' wide range will fit. Only rug I saw at a local store was a real antique persian gabbeh rug, close to $6K in new condition.

Will see if anyone bites, he has already lowered the price since he listed it. Saw another similiar rug on ebay in Jan with a crazy price, and it did not sell either.

It does look very dense, which is good. Gabbehs usually are on the expensive side even though their designs are not elaborate. Cost will be driven in part by knots per square inch and quality of wool.

Not so much by region, I think. Labor costs of someone making 200 knots per square inch will not be all that different in Pakistan or India, maybe more in Turkey. But very good quality rugs can come from India.

Always interested in how they price rugs. This guy has another of almost the exact same rug, but in a different size, with a different border.

I don't understand why are not ready to pay $1700, only because it is made in India!!! Anyways the repo you see is 100% and its hand woven. India has some of the best rugs manufacturers in the world.

It's a very pretty rug, but it's hard to say what's a reasonable price because many rugs are way overpriced. Even our local Bloomingdales recently sold their rugs for 80% off, so I always wonder how much mark-up there is. Similar Gabbehs are offered for less on Ebay (see below). I'd wait and see if he takes your offer.
With respect to the feedback, most of it doesn't sound like it's about rugs. Also strange that you can't look at what item actually sold for what (i.e. no clickable link to even the most recent items sold).
Two other suggestions:
Ask what the KPSI (knots/square inch) is for the rug and how much it weighs. I'd call some online Gabbeh sellers and ask to compare, e.g. www.persianbijar.com
Also, make sure that the rug is indeed wide enough for your table and chairs.

I checked Ebay's sold rugs, and the prices were $700-$900. Would seem I am in the right price range. Looked online for similar rugs but have not seen anything close.
