Definitely Fort Laramies!!!!!! This variety was invented (?) for this kind of climate. They are large, tasty and very cold hardy. Another plus is they do not have to be mulched or covered for protection. We made a large bed out of pure, native sand, planted a dozen plants, and put strawberries in the freezer we had so many. They multipy well too. After several years I moved all of the plants into the garden and they never did as well after that and eventually they all died. A lot of that was because I was not watering like I should have. When I start my new bed it will be with Ft. Laramies.

Fresh Apple Cake 3 Tart green apples, peeled and chopped 3 T. sugar 2 tsp. cinnamon 2 cups sugar 1 cup vegetable oil 4 eggs 1/4 cup orange juice (I use fresh squeezed) 1 tsp. grated orange zest 2 tsp. vanilla 3 cups flour 1 T. baking powder (yes a tablespoon) 1/2 tsp. salt Citrus rum glaze 1 cup orange juice (I use whatever is in the fridge - fresh or bought) 2 T. lemon juice. 1 cup sugar 2 T. rum Combine apples with sugar and cinnamon. In a large bowl, cream sugar and oil. Add eggs one at a time and beat after each addition. Add juice, zest and vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Beat into creamed mixture until smooth. Grease a 10" bundt pan. Pour 1/3 batter into pan, then 1/2 apples, repeat 1/3 batter, 1/2 apples and final 1/3 batter. The batter will be a little stiff but it all works together when baking. Bake at 350 F. for 60-70 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool slightly before glazing. Glaze - Combine ingredients in pot and bring to a boil. Drizzle over warm cake and cool before removing from pan. Bundt cakes are put upside down (or at least I do) so I saved some of the drizzle to put over the new top, which was the bottom. I serve mine with whipping cream. This cake is very moist and really good. Enjoy.

If the soil isn't frozen (and it shouldn't be with those temps) plant them in. I assume the ones you received are dormant. Strawberries are hardy they will be fine.

Do you have winter protection for your Olsen’s? Good question. And yes I have protected it since the beginning but until this past Fall I also protected that GLF, but even unprotected there was minimal winter kill for it, and it was a tricky winter. So I am probably going to leave OFS to its own this Fall. (Yikes, I am already talking about the Fall :( )
