shower head hot water low pressure

Hi,

My shower head in my main bedroom is acting funny. its been doing this for awhile so I forget when exactly it started.

it is a single handle style shower head. when I turn it to hot the pressure becomes low, when I turn the handle to cold, it has normal high pressure.

I had a vibrating issue when the handle was in the middle then I replace the cartridge which fixed this issue.

now I don't know why the low pressure (lower as you go to a hotter setting). Does the water hearter have anything to do with this?

What's the water heater set at?

Too high of a temp will do that

I bet you that is it. this morning I noticed that it was too hot even when my single handle setting was more on the cold side.
what should the heater setting be? I know about 1 1/2 yrs ago or so I set it a bit higher than normal (whatever that was).
will this affect other faucets (kitchen pressure seems low as well?

If I were going to guess, it would be that you got the two sides reversed. That is, you connected the cold to the outlet and the hot to the inlet. Most all the new WHs I see have a restriction valve in the inlet and outlet to make sure that hot water does not flow out the cold side.

Thanks for responding. I took the aerator off, and still the pressure was low. The water has never flowed fast out of the hot water dispenser, so I can't say for sure that its pressure is low, but it does sputter some after I've run it for about 1 minute. I'm really baffled that both the hot and cold have low pressure. Any other ideas?

"I get this behavior on all hot water lines. What floater or heat expansion are you talking about?" By "floater" I mean something that's suspended in the HW tank and is drawn toward the outlet when the water flows. The water would flow freely at first but when this obstruction is drawn to the outlet it would diminish. By "heat expansion" I mean some portion of the outflow plumbing that expands as the hot water begins flowing through it thereby coming to restrict the flow as it enlarges. From your description, I'm suspecting something involving one of the other of these is at work. Since you say the behavior didn't happen until the new tank went in, I'm thinking whatever it is must be associated with that new install. Like Chris Davis, I, too, would be interested in learning whether or not you also get low-flow on the cold water lines when this happens with your hot-water lines. That would tell you a lot. From the time you turn on the hot water, how long does it take for the flow to diminish? Is it about the same amount of time each time? If you then turn it off for a minute or so and turn it back on, is it still diminished or is full flow back again? This is interesting.

Haven’t called a plumber yet and resistant. Had a leak around a vent pipe last winter. Called a handyman to fix it and paid him 350 bucks and he didn’t fix it. Called a plumber and they said they fixed bit and charged me 600 and no one fixed the problem. I was hoping to troubleshoot the problem first before calling someone.

Hello,
I did check the water heater setting a couple of weeks ago and it was above the normal setting so I dialed it back to the NORMAL position. Weeks later my shower head pressure is still the same and the water temp is still hot when the handle is in the middle?? The pressure increases when I turn it to cold.
Any ideas? Plumbers are too expensive and I would like to avoid one if at all possible.
I forgot to add that I do hear a clicking sound when the handle is in the middle or hotter....don't think it means much but thought I throw this in.
