Recirc pump- cold water comes out warm!

My contractor added a recirculating pump for instant hot water. The problem is that our cold water now comes out very warm. We experience this most strongly early in the morning. When we first open the tap we experience cool water, quickly followed by a stream of several minutes of warm water.

The contractor showed me that the Delta cartridge- RP46463- has a metal plate that covers the water inlets. He blames the warm water on the metal plate transfering heat from the pumped in hot line to the cold line. The theory makes sense- when I turn off the pump my problems go away. This is occuring in a Danze faucet in the same bathroom, and a Pfister kitchen faucet. I have not tested it in the Delta faucet itself.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Does delta make a better cartridge with a ceramic plate?
