Twin XL bedding

I am putting twin XL beds in my guest room. I know the sheets have to be XL. Do I also need to look for XL comforters and blankets? Will regular twin comforters and blankets do?

Because twin xl beds are commonly used in dorms, my choices are a little more shall we say youthful than I want. If I don't have to have twin xl comforters, I have greater selection.

When my daughters went to college we did get the XL sheets but we got regular comforters.

Use queen comforters and blankets if you can't find TwinXL. It's really annoying to have a short blanket tucked in on a long bed because you can't get it up over your shoulders.

You can buy some decent, non-collegiate bedding on the Internet. Try Amazon or Overstock.

Thanks everyone! It's no fun having a son going off to college. He won't shop, has no interest in anything other than what kind of TV he can have in his room. I asked him what color he'd like, and he said it didn't matter. I'm thinking about buying him hot pink as a joke. However, the joke would be on me since I'd have to return them... I was on overstock.com last month and they had twin XL memory foam mattress pads, so I ordered him one because he loves his memory foam mattress topper on his bed at home. When I asked him if he wanted one for the dorm, he told me no, he'd just take the one he had. I said, how will that work since your bed now is a queen and your dorm will be a twin. It honestly hadn't occurred to him that it wouldn't fit. I fear one day his wife will come to my house and just smack me. He's messy, leaves cupboards open as he makes himself a snack in the kitchen, leaves his shoes by the door, drapes his clothes on the kitchen chair/FR couch and it generally oblivious to his surroundings. When I yell at him, he picks the things up, closes the cupboards etc...but he does it again the next time. I've failed miserably to train this one well. At least he's not a punky teen. He's polite, hard working and does well in school. Just a nightmare to live with!! At his college orientation session during the parent meeting we were all talking about parental concerns etc. and one parent commented that changing the sheets on these dorm loft beds was a nightmare. Knowing my son, I raised my hand and said - that's a big assumption that they will ever change their sheets. I'm hoping for once a quarter.

I haven't read all the replies, but I say back away from the bedding. It is a great gift idea, but bad timing (unless it is something she adores, has to have and is on closeout -- in which case I'd buy it, hide it for later and hope she doesn't change her mind). It isn't something she is going to use now and it will seem less like a gift when is's pile of unused bedding in the corner while other people are using their gifts -- and then the new stuff is starting to feel old by the time she actually does get to use it. I know more girls who want to pick out things with a roommate (I never considered that, but I got a roommate who wanted to go shop and have everthing in the room match -- so we did, and it was fun, but not what I would have picked on my own). She may get things as gifts from others, and that's better suited to graduation gifts anyway. It isn't the gift idea -- just the timing. Letting her do her own shopping in London is a great idea. You could give her a preloaded card to spend so she has something to open and the choices on how to spend can be hers. Travel accessories are good if she doesn't have them, and many can come in handy for college (chargers she probably has, a power adapter, packing organizers, travel jewelry case, etc.) The Container Store has some nice options and Marshalls has a lot of travel jewely cases this time of year. Or something to do while on that long flight -- some new music to listen to, a video or two to watch, materials for a small needlework project if she's into any of those things or would like to learn, or a small coloring book and pencils.

An extra long won't feel any different than the same model in regular twin length of 75 inches. A twin won't feel any different than the same model and construction in the king or queen size model. As with all things, comfort is personal, and price is usually indicative of quality. ......and often comfort, but not always. It's a third of your life for the next decade. Divide is my advice, based on that. Thus...even 5 k over ten years is 500.00 per year for that third of your life. What do you spend on a car, as I doubt you spend eight hours a day in that machine : )?

Where to buy twin XL bed frames

Hi there! We're looking for some modern or transitional looking twin XL bed frames - ideally wood or could do something metal and schoolhouse looking. I'm just not finding them anywhere online. None of the main retailers seem to have them. Any suggestions, or do I need to have these made custom?

I've looked at BBB for Twin XL comforters, but I never thought about Amazon. I looked on Overstock, too.

The issue with queen is that while they are long enough, they are way too wide. One chart I found online listed Twin XL comforters as 68x90 and queen as 86x90-94. That means a queen, while the correct length is 18 inches wider. An extra 9 inches on each side sounds too long to me. I would like a slightly wider comforter or blanket but 18 inches I think might look sloppy.

I thought about purchasing a full comforter but it is the same length as a regular twin comforter. And most full size bedding today is full/queen. Back to the same problem as just using a queen.

This is turning out to be a lot more trouble than I thought it would be when I opted for the Twin XL beds in the guest room! I thought I would go to BBB buy sheets, a down comforter for winter, a down blanket for summer and be on my way!

Try bedderbedding.net, they will custom make anything for you. They are in Wisconsin. They made my son's dorm linens since we didn't like anything at Bed Bath and Beyond or Dormco, and they were fine.

The Company Store has Twin XL comforters, duvet covers and sheets. They are mostly solid colors, but I'm sure the quality is nice, at least!

jshore, solid is what I'm looking for. Don't know why I didn't think to look at The Company Store! I'm going to blame it on moving. All of the clutter is keeping me from thinking straight!

I second The Company Store. And Land's End has XL Twin sheets.

As for a queen comforter--measure it out on the beds that you have. I have a king comforter on a full bed and I think it looks fine. I don't need a bed skirt with it because it covers the mattress and box spring. If you think more "bedspread" and not, "comforters must end at the bottom of the mattress," it might not look so bad.

Macy's also has XL Twin comforters, but I think only on-line, not in stores.
