Here's a question I would ask, do you add fertilizer to your pond? Because if it's a just a normal pond with lily pads & other aquatic plants. Not to mention if you have fish in it. Then it could simply be that you put your plants in a nutrient rich environment & even alkaline. And since you let your pond evaporate, I can imagine there is a build-up of of minerals & other salts. Hence why your plants are not doing so well, even if you planted them in sphagnum peat moss. They have soaked up all these salt & now it is ruined for carnivorous plants. Member ken2256 advice is sound, so that is the 1st step you can do to rescue your plants. But we have to know what you have. We are assuming that you may have Sarracenias but what if you have a tropical Nepenthes, we might give you the wrong advice that will kill your plant. Carnivorous plants grow in acid rich bogs, or nutrient rich fens. I don't know what kind of sundew plants you have, unless you can post a picture of them. But most sundews can survive being submerged. And if you have North American Sarracenias & not tropical Nepenthes (there have been some people that not knowing what they have thought Nepenthes were sarracenias & were growing them wrong. So we need a better description what you have). They often grow in environment that normally get flooded.

Hey Mark. After looking closer at your leaves it almost looks like two leaves merged together into one. I say that because I have a baby that is doing the same thing. I will try to take a pic and show ya what I mean. Jamie

Karen, Most people cut off the inflos because the cutting will use all of it's stored energy to produce flowers instead of rooting. It's a gamble to leave the inflo on. I have left them on and they have been fine. Generally the first flowers will open, then rooting and leafing will take place shortly after, but it does drain the cutting. If it begins to wrinkle it is running out of juice, however, I have had some do this and then as soon as the first leaf opens they plump back up. As I said, it is a gamble and safer to cut off the inflo. Good luck, Tony

Most common cause of bleeding from that area is a broken nail. Sometimes it can be hard to see if it is only cracked. If it bleeds over and over you will need to have the nail cut (usually at the point of the break).. not an amputation (rarely if ever needed), but a bit painful for a moment since it usually means cutting into the quick. It will grow back quickly. A cracked or broken nail will rarely heal and can be a chronic source of pain and aggravation for your dog. Good idea to get it checked out. Good thing is even nails totally ripped out usually grow back. You just need to keep the dewclaws trimmed regularly as they do not wear down the way other nails do and can easily over grow and become dangerous 'hooks' and get injured easily.
