Adopted cat in early stage of CRF - what to feed?

I just adopted a beautiful Burmese cat - her age is unknown but could be 4 yrs or slightly older. The vet says she is in the early stage of CRF - only because of frequent urination and dilute urine when he did a UA. He did not do any blood work yet. She appears healthy, has put on a little weight (she was very thin) and is very active. Loves to cuddle, walk outside on a leash and play with the laser toy. The Vet wanted me to feed her the Royal Canin kidney food. I don't like the quality of the ingredients and Augusta didn't like the food. Right now she is eating Avoderm canned food and loves it.

Does anyone have experience with this? I have read on many websites that it is better to feed top quality food with good quality protein and lower levels of phosphorus.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
