Ejector pit Q and new pump install Q

We have a spare ejector pit I posted about awhile back. It was full of water at the end of construction, and was emptied by the plumbers. It is now full of clear water (better than nasty foul water from before). Is this likely groundwater seepage? I thought there was a sealed plastic basin that's sitting in the hole. All of the pipes that drain into this are capped and nothing has leaked in from above. There's a dual sump pit next to this but there is no connection.

When I install the pump, is this going to be a closed loop system, or will the basin hold the waste and then an intake pipe terminates in the cesspool to lift it out when it reaches a certain level? If it's truly closed, then what happens to all this water that accumulates around the unit? If it's an open thing, won't the waste water leech out the same way this other water is getting in?
