Peoria.

Why not just have a Honey Baked Ham delivered to Peoria? Since we don't have a Honey Baked Ham store where I live, I always just order it and have it delivered. Do you really want to drive 45 minutes to Bloomington and 45 minutes back to Peoria? I have tried Heavenly Ham and it really doesn't compare to the Honey Baked. My 93 y/o MIL lives in Peoria and I will ask her if she knows what brand Schnucks has. She shops there all the time.

Linda, I considered having it shipped to the house but was trying to avoid having to pay any extra expenses. We are driving from VA and will drive all the way through to get there but will stop on the way back home to stay in a hotel due to not wanting to drive over the mountains in the dark. Not fun. Been there, done that - fog, ice, snow. No thank you! Thank you for asking your Mom.

There is a Honey Baked Ham near me, in Plainfield I think, But that is quite a ways north of Peoria. I always make ham for Christmas dinner and have always had excellent results with the Cooks extra close trim shank portion hams. I use the Boars Head Ham Glaze with it. It is not a fancy spiral cut, but it is always tender and juicy. I bake mine in a oven bag so I don't have to worry about it drying out if any of the guests are late.

If you're driving and driving straight thru couldn't you carry most of what you you need in one of those white foam things? It's so hard to shop in a place you don't know...especially after a drive like that. that is so hard... Good luck and try to have fun.

We were listening to the news tonight and laughing up a storm about the governor there. Then we were trying to figure out what we thought was so funny. I guess it's because he is so blatant and I was born in Chicago which probably gives me a wrapped view of corruption.

Thanks for the suggestions. We are driving straight through on the 22nd so I don't want to buy too early. She called last night and she now wants both a turkey and ham. I'm just trying to go with the flow.:)

Honey Baked ham has gotten a bad rap around here lately. The quality is not what it once was.

I was at a party last weekend and the hostess had a fantastic spiral honey ham on the buffet. A number of us asked where she got it and she "forgot". Her DH later told me she bought it at Aldi's! I googled and they have several stores in Peoria. I know that they also carry Smithfeild hams as I have one in the basement fridge.

Tache, we are laughing too. At the shear stupidity and ego of the man and his wife. Calling the President elect a "M-F" does not help you.

I misspoke above in saying Honey Baked Ham is not in Illinois. Yes they are but not in the Peoria area. Sorry to hear that the Honey Baked is not as good in your area. To be honest, it's been a while since I have had one. Aldi's - I know they are in Peoria as you said but I haven't been in one. Actually, the closest grocery store to them is Cub and I really wasn't impressed with that.

Dixie, all the Cub Foods closed here over a year ago so you may want to double check that they are istill in Peoria. Think the whole company went under.And no, they were nothing to write home about.

Just got back from Aldi's. They had a good selection of Smithfields.

Peppi, we went in that Cub at the end of May of this year. I looked it up on line and it is still there. But, I really don't have any intention of shopping there. Thanks for letting me know.

OMG! Smithfeidl's ham. We order a full leg every year and just swell up! So much salt but so good!

FYI I'm in California, but we buy a Honey Baked once a year for a New Years get together. I've found that there is a difference where you buy it. But that said, tonight we were at a holiday party where they had a honey baked (at least I' pretty sure it was) and it was better than ever. I've never seen or had a Smithfield ham so this isn't intended as a comment on that brand.

Karen, we have gone home via Smithfield, NC just to get some Smithfield ham. Salty, yes, but I'm all about salty.

We had the smithfield for dinner last night and it was not salty at all, in fact, the label mentioned that it was teh 25% lower sodium version. Very nice!
