NJ - LaurieF and Mike: Wow, you guys are amazing! Thank you for your help and good gardening in 2007. I have never come across anyone who could ID this - and it looks like we are close to it! Now, if only I could find a photo of Mrs. Horace... that might help. On the Garden of Mu website, the Innocenza looks like its falls are much broader across than my iris. In my iris, the falls are quite narrow, they seem to fold on themselves and also bend back towards the flowering stem. It is generally speaking a small iris - each flower no more than 3 inches tall. BTW - also in my garden (a pass-along from another iris lover) is "iris lucastris" - each flower no bigger than a quarter. It's a species from the north shores of the Great Lakes, I'm told. If any of you come to visit Canada some time, please consider a visit to the Ottawa area (our country's capital) I would be happy to share iris pieces with you! In October, a friend in Strasbourg, France sent me three rhizomes that someone gave her. They seemed to be all different and I can't wait till they bloom, since the sender did not know the colours.

There any many different kinds - check here for magenta colored ones. And the leaves are very characteristic of that genus.
