Bought wrong recessed cans, can I still use them?

I bought a box of 6 - 4" recessed can lights back in 2009 from Expo when they were going out of business. I was so dazzled with the great price that I guess didn't pay close attention to what I actually bought. We've been storing these since then as our plans and budget fluctuated for the kitchen.

A couple of weeks ago, I pulled down the box of lights and realized that they're halogen. All this time, I thought they were regular incandescent and I had planned to use CFL's. I know I don't want to use halogen bulbs. They'll be too hot, especially during the summer months in TX. Will LED replacement bulbs work in these fixtures? I saw some LED bulbs at Lowes the other day, but I didn't really see what kind of fixture it was meant to replace.

Has anyone done this? Or can you direct me to a good source of information?

Or should I just factor in buying new fixtures?
