Water spots on polished vs honed marble tile floor
Comments (2)Honed will be less obvious. If it's etching, sealer or honing won't prevent it. I'd question whether it's just water, and what is in whatever you're mopping it with, too. (I only clean the marble with marble cleaner.) My only spots are around the toilet... Nothing to prevent that short of sitting. Comments (10)rubyvine, before I sealed my honed marble, it was indeed like a sponge ... water soaked right in! I sealed it myself with 511 Impregnator available from Home Depot ... easy process: spray on, rub in and wipe excess off. Now water and other liquids stay on the surface. I've spilled all kinds of stuff on it: coffee, tomato sauce, soy sauce ... some of the drips sat overnight ... and no stains. I can't urge you strongly enough to get a good sized sample of the honed marble, seal it and then abuse it. Drip some lemon juice on it so that you'll know what etching looks like and whether or not you can tolerate it. Good luck! Erika...See MoreTo all owners of Jet Mist/ Virginia Mist counter tops
Comments (26)We are considering jet mist but have a small kitchen and wonder if we should go with white quartz to keep it light and airy. Does anyone have a picture of it in your space? All of the pictures on here are stunning and worthy of spreads in Architectural Design, but not an apples to apples comparison to what what our kitchen would look like!!...See MoreSea Pearl Quartzite Question!
Comments (8)Interesting question josephhou, there is no such thing as hard/soft quartzite. The reality is there is quartzite and there is marble. People sell marble as "soft quartzite" and that is wrong on many levels. If I were in your position I would use a few very simple tests to definitively determine if you have quartzite or not. It's easy to do. Then, if you have quartzite, you can polish or hone it as you please. If you do not have quartzite, then you can punt from there. But there's no need to hedge your bets when you can know the exact answer. All the info you need is here: http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2692150/countertop-geology-part-six-lets-talk-about-rocks-some-more Please also direct your KD to this info, because he/she should also know the best way to deal with this question. Hope this helps!...See MoreUser
