Dear Lisa0527: It is not a custom top. Those marble console sinks are so expensive and I had to keep it tight. SH made the most inexpensive version, and one that was only 2' wide -- that's all the space I had. I investigated buying the top and legs separately, and I did find an online seller that was offering the chrome base at a good price -- but, once I started pricing the marble top-- materials, labor -- the total went right back up to the SH price. That said, I don't think the SH marble is the best quality, but it's a good value. I wasn't worried about the thickness of the stone -- this is a powder room, so it doesn't get the workout of a main bathroom -- it's more about the nature of marble itself -- easily etched, a bit softer than granite. This marble was not very white, but again, it was good for the price. I'm happy with it.

Here is a view turned 180 degrees from the exterior wall ( below). The corner cupboard and fireplace will be extended horizontally on both sides until it meets the wall. Instead of doors that open, there will be a large framed flat surface on which a 52" screen will be mounted. The new sofa and chairs will be oriented on an angle to face the screen. It will extend almost to the wall area where the small screen is now hanging. The pool table will parallel the right wall, which you cannot see (it's several feet to the right). On an even better note, dh has agreed to give up the college era hideous green bookcase and it awaiting transport to the local charity jumble shop. For reference, ceiling height in room at bottom of stairs is 10 ft, the there is one drop down to 8' 6" for the larger area. We would not relocate all the stuff without essentially rebuilding the house. 8' 6" is not ideal, but respectable enough for a very wide basement area without much furniture.

I did not buy the settee at this time. None of my coupons were working and the chickie on the order line was being difficult about it, so I gave up because the price difference would pay for a set of wood blinds. Maybe next time it goes on sale they'll work, or it'll be on a better sale. Windypoint, I adore all the Victorian trims, although I do have to exercise some self-restraint to avoid overwhelming my DH. He is extremely tolerant but he does still have his limits! The chair cushions are getting a nice deep-eggplant piping to match the same color in the (very very subtle) paisley, I have some lovely big olive-colored tassels for curtain tiebacks, and pillows will be generously trimmed out as well. I use few pillows (too many and they end up thrown on the floor) so they have to have "oomph" visually. Can't hack the pompoms though. :-) Hoosiergirl, the Morris chair is actually very comfortable! Appearances can be very deceiving. DH is picky about where he plants his butt and he claimed it as soon as it was brought home. It fits him perfectly. I've already said it's getting new, thicker cushions, the existing cushions do suck big time. Squirrel, thank you for eventually actually reading what I wrote. :-) I'm getting kind of frustrated with that in general, I end up wondering why I even bother writing/explaining anything at all if all people are going to do is look at the pictures? I've definitely learned my lesson though, I'll only post the barest minimum of pictures, if any, from now on. Thank you for the mockups, but I had to crack up at how the fabric you put on the Morris chair is showing on my monitor, as a very bright lime-tinged olive green with gaudy bright purple splotches. *chuckle* I'm also giggling at your very carefully working around organic_smallhome's end tables - I've been trying to weasel those out of her for ages so her old couch wouldn't get lonely for them! LOL I'm so bad! I have my eye on a couple of end tables in a couple of antique shops here that I am certain pretty much everyone here would absolutely detest but I really like. As for what happened to my old living room.... uh, I moved? ;-) ;-) ;-) The leather couch has been moved to what used to be the dining room - it was too large, squat and heavy for the living room, but the dining room is open to the kitchen and so the leather couch isn't as much of a hulk in there because the total space is greater. The upholstered bench is also in there because it, too, is too big for the living room. Dark wicker chair is in the guest room because a [expletive deleted] mover cracked one of the legs, and the leather chair and ottoman are in the bizarre little bedroom we use as a library because it is SO huge it doesn't fit anywhere - it's the only piece of furniture besides the bookshelves in the library! The camelback couch is smaller and less massive-feeling, much better-suited to the smaller living room. NO way am I buying a new couch for the living room. Good grief, I can't even imagine throwing away a good quality, extremely comfortable couch that I already have, that's just crazy talk! It's probably going to be some years before I can afford to have the couch reupholstered. A deep eggplant fabric would be my preference but it would probably be a neutral caramel-ish sort of color for more practicality. I do plan on a new slipcover for it but it is going to have to wait because nice slipcovers get pricey (especially when you're incredibly sick of microsuede and duck/twill just doesn't work for the room). Too much else on the right-now list!

I think that is a Bessie print-I got it so many years ago. I've moved it to my guest room now. Knot holes-they still show-I wanted the ceiling to still look rustic, but they're now less obtrusive. The PO was a smoker, so I had a lot of leak thru of nicotine before I put the second coat of paint on. I was really worried about that, but the second coat did the trick. The ceiling has some 'holes, where the know holes were chinked out, but that adds to the charm of the old pine ceiling. The floor is just a low end laminate-if I ever need to turn it back in to a bedroom, I'll have carpeting put back in there, but for now, the laminate cleans up well. The chair was painted with primer for plastic, then I went over it with just white spray paint. I'm debating doing a chalk paint finish in pink, I kind of like the white. I was going to make a slip cover for it, but discovered that there was a fabric covered plastic backing, so I was able to use a flexible putty knife and push the fabric deep into the crevices-no sewing whatsoever! The arm pads just unscrewed, so a bit of stapling, hot glue and rescrewing it back on, they were done. It literally took me less than 30 minutes to recover it. So far the paint is holding up well, I specifically chose plastic spray primer. I'm going to paint the top of the desk in pink chalk paint, and wax the whole thing. A year or so ago I painted the sewing cabinet with chalk paint and I love it, so I think the desk will take it well. I did add crystal knobs to the drawers and some crystal knobs to the farm house table-my little bit of bling. I finished decorating it this weekend, and managed to get ALL my craft supplies back in, with barely and room to spare. I bought some cute glass jars to hold a lot of my crafting supplies, and I used vintage glass salt & pepper shakers to hold glitter. I have vintage pottery & silver holding a lot of my other supplies-it's just so 'me' in there.
