In my breakfast area (which is part of our kitchen) I have one oil painting of flowers and fruit, plate racks the run vertically on either side of my slidding glass doors to patio with plates, a couple of black iron wall grates and above the sink I have a french wooden sign that says the fruit of the spirit is love (in french). I have no clock b/c I have a large on in my attached family room. In the small hall to the powder room that you see from the kitchen and I have a rust iron wall basket with some greenery in it.- All this was picked by me with the help of my interior designer so that I would get it right-haha!

Because my name is Robin, I have this print in a black wood frame and linen mat and a hummingbird one done by the same artist...

Right now only cabinets. The backsplash is going to be tumbled travertine and that's the only wall space in my kitchen except for the space between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling. Not sure what if anything I can do up there.

We took our first family overseas trip, to Italy, during the last stages of our kitchen reno in 2005. My teen dd took b&w photos. 4 of them hang on the sides of 2 tall cabinets.

I think it depends on the style of your kitchen. I want things that have a family history. I plan to have antiques: a regulator pendant clock and a porcelain coffee grinder. The clock was an anniversary present from my in-laws. The back of the clock has a bullet embedded in the lumber. The coffee grinder hung in my mom's kitchen as long as I can remember.

A sign that reminds me of my time on GW

Decortating is definitely not my forte (as evidenced by the sad flowers in the foreground.) But I'm pleased with the b&w photos. The 2 tall cabinets bookend the run of windows.

I had some vintage canning labels framed in our old kitchen and they will go back up on the little bit of wall I have in the new kitchen.

But my favorite new accessory is a sign that will be hung down low over dog's bowls that says "Home is Where the Dog Is"

What we have in the doorway wall is a long, thin piece of cardboard with a piece of masking tape running the length of it. Every child who comes to our house (and their friends) measure themselves against the piece of tape. Their height is marked with the sticky part from a Post-It note with their name and the date on it.

Then, we cover the labeled Post It strip with clear Scotch tape.

Over the years, every child in our extended family (and many of their friends) have left a beautiful, permanent record of their growth from year to year.

Not the classiest thing you've ever seen, but we cherish it more than I can tell you.

And even kids who haven't visited recently return to that chart to see where they were, last time they were at our house.

Funny timimg ... I finished my kitchen in August and have been hating my big blank wall. So this past weekend I took 3 of my garndfather's floral pastels in to be framed. I am now anxiously waiting for them to be done. 3 weeks or so.

I have all of my N.O. black and white photos. This was where I grew up and since our kitchen has lots of brick and wood , it reminds me of an old N.O. kitchen in the Quarter. I also have a beautiful towel from France that DIL and DS1 brought back and I have framed it and propped it on the mantle above the cooktop. My colors are Thyme Green and Saffron Yellow and she found these exact colors. I love love all the beautiful pics. Caroline

I have glass backed frames that contain recipes written up to 100 years ago. Simple, and I use them because I can see both sides of the recipe cards. Every time I see my mother's or my husband's grandmother's handwriting, it brings back warm memories. And, it adds a bit of history to our space.

I love hanging the things that have special meaning. The vintage canning labels are great too. Where did you find those?

I have vintage vegetable crate labels that I had framed, a Coca-Cola mirror, and my favorite rooster print by Rodney White. I also love my cupcake tile over the stove that I found at Goodwill. Can't have a tile backsplash... must display the $1 thrift store find! :)

nightowlrn, thank you thank you thank you! I love that and it is so perfect for me. I'd been thinking about painting some sort of quote on the wall but I couldn't figure out what to paint. I've already told my DH about it (he loved it) and I'm going to paint it either above my dining room doorway or if I'm really brave, I'll paint it in huge letters on the 24' wall in my two story foyer! Since our kitchen is now fully functional I have been thinking of "the decorating thing". I have a very old hooked rug that I bought many years ago. It is fragile and cannot be used on the floor. The colors are still very vibrant and the black ties in with our soapstone counters. I was thinking of mounting it someway to hang on the wall. What do you think?

hippiechick, that's gorgeous! You could take it to be framed, I'm sure. And the frame would cover up the frayed edges. Very cool.

great question... Harley neon clock, little shelf for cooking oils, strainer, cutting board and magnetic knife rack and just for fun, some framed sets of old girlie matchbooks.

I think it would be beautiful framed. However, I really like the frayed edges and wouldn't cover them with the frame. I would have the rug mounted on the top of the matboard or whatever you choose to use with a couple of inches of perimeter to showcase the frayed edges and the frame and glass raised if this makes sense. This type of framing has a name it just isn't coming to me right know (it's not shadowbox). I have two things mounted like this in my breakfast area. I will try to find their picture and post them.

I bought the canning labels at a small shop in Luray, Virginia. It used to be a big fruit canning area back in the day. But you can do a Google search on Vintage (or Antique) Can or Crate labels and get a bunch of places that they can be ordered from.

in our kitchen which is almost almost done, we have nothing on the walls....sweet nothing. which pleases me. we will be hanging the wall mounted coke bottle opener though one of these days...

I don't have walls but when I do, I plan on hanging a couple of antique coffee grinders I've got around here somewhere, and I have a small collection (6) of medieval botanical drawings (hand colored) that I'd like to work in somewhere. I don't expect to have much wall space (given that I have filled it with cabinets) so I'm waiting to have those framed until I see what I have to work with.

Did anyone ever watch Party of Five? They had a collection of rolling pins hanging on a wall in their kitchen-I loved that. Some day I plan to do that-but I should probably start looking for ones to collect first!

ahem, there are cabinets and cabinets and a few more cabinets. We had already difficulties finding a spot for the clock. That one was a MUST-HAVE.

I have a couple of antique Dutch cookie molds. Would love to display them and just can't find a spot for them :-(
