Job offer...

My son just started his new job a couple of weeks....It seems like a fairly good job.

Today he had lunch with a friend of his that is a CEO of a company...He brought a friend who has a couple of businesses....by the time the lunch was over he was offering Jeff a job. He was offering commission only...Jeff said nope...I'd need 50 thousand a year base pay. and I need a car...He went along with it all and offered to buy him a car. Jeff told him to make up a work agreement and he'll look it over...He seems really excited about it. I hope it works out.

Oh Patti, that sounds great. I'll be saying lots of prayers for a good outcome. It's time you had something go your way. (and kitty can come in)

Two main things I think you need to consider first: 1- You're taking them to a foreign country so you want to check to see if there are any issues or laws regarding the importation of worms, especially if they are a non-native species. 2 - When you're ready to come back you may have issues bringing those same worms (descendants of those worms) back into the US. I don't think it's enough to say they were "born in the USA" and you're just bringing them back. I know that to import non-native livestock into Canada requires a regulatory "dance" involving permits and quarantining. More and more there is resistance to importation of non-native anything that could become invasive and/or pose risk to their ecosystems. Since annelids of various kinds can be found on every continent on earth (even Antarctica ... google ice worms ... way cool) it may be easier to find a source at your destination. If it was me, I'd find a relative, friend or fellow worm fanatic to worm sit. I bet if you posted on this forum and on other forums something like "Looking for someone to wormsit bin. Can keep compost and new worms, just return bin with same amount of worms when I come back." Another forum I visit often is vermicomposters.ning.com, lots of people from all over on there.

I'm also glad that you found a job that you love and that is close to where you live. I don't shop at Walmart either, partly because I do not like big box stores, although I do shop at Home Depot. Another reason is that there is not a Walmart close to me, as the real estate in Western Los Angeles (where I live) is too expensive for Walmart. I never saw a Walmart in San Francisco either, and I think WM avoids the areas where I like to live and shop. I don't like shopping at Target either, but there are a couple of Targets close to me, and so I will go there on occasion. The Target stores smell like cheap plastic or formaldehyde and that is another reason I do not like to shop there. When I do shop, I like to go the trendy streets like Melrose in Hollywood, Third Street Promendate in Santa Monica, or Santa Monica Blvd in WeHo, but I tend to avoid Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills because that's still above my budget and the clerks there are irritating to deal with. I don't like closed shopping malls, but Century City is nice because it is open air. Still, I am thrilled that you are happy, and I do not think you should feel any stigma attached to working at Walmart. In this economy, it is great to have a job where you can be happy. Lars

we moved to the dayton area a few years ago for my husband's residency. we bought an older (1906) farmhouse w/ beautiful original woodwork and floors for (well) under $200,000. the bathrooms and kitchen are ok, nothing to write home about. four bedrooms, plus smallish nursery type room, dining room, living room, library, family room, 5 acres, two nice barns, detached garage, and 5 acres. no central air, unfinished basement and attic. don't know where you are coming from or what would be a good price, but there are a lot of houses like mine around here. a good place to start would be dayton.rapmls.com i often go here just to look around. get a map of ohio's counties and see what kind of commute would be doable. hope this helps, happy to answer any more questions.

He said he's not going to move out right away...because he wants for awhile to pay his rent here and get some money back to us...since he knows he is responsible for our entire mess. He and a friend are going to finish off that room upstairs...and put up the railing. (the railing is out of an old home...very plain but I like it.and they are putting a storage closet in up there. That will be great.

Oh and he'll be helping us get that back yard in shape so those dogs don't drag in so much mud. I'm not kidding the mud I swept up yesterday would have filled a large flower pot. I COULD plant a garden out there..LOL

Patti ~ I hope this job works out for Jeff. He's had a rough time and you and Denny have gone beyond having a rough time. It's about time something is working for you. I'm so happy for all of you. I'm definitely going to be saying some prayers for y'all.

Well it is a sales position and what the guy talked about was eventually working to to a VP

Denny said "what made him offer you a job?" ...Jeff kind of laughed and said..."he had lunch with me.."

As if he is so unresitable...LOL

I could tell you what the name of the company is but probably shouldn't...it orignated in Canada

But each are individually owned and operated.

I know you mentioned a sales position, but I asked because I didn't imagine the offer would be no salary and commission only all the way up to 50k and still commission. I was wondering if the offer changed to one that is customarily a salaried position. Thanx for telling me. Sounds wonderful for Jeff.

be careful...working for friends can bite you in the rear..
Having said that , I hope it works out for him.I bet you look forward to a time those darn dogs are "visiting granddogs". Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

The guy that offered him a job is not his friend...he just met him at lunch yesterday.

I think his friend may have filled him in about Jeff before the lunch...
