Comin' down the home stretch.....

Yesterday I stopped at every 7-11 store in town looking for styrofoam coolers and finally found two. I'm filling them with "Mom's Meals" for part of my two sons' Christmas gift from me. I've made lasagna (8 portions), mini meatloaves and twice baked potatoes (6 portions) and green chile enchiladas (4 portions).

Today I'm making sourdough bread in small loaves and some whole grain loaves in my mini loaf pans. These will go to my parents, my sons, and my sisters.

I have a salad to make for our Christmas Eve dinner and another salad and bread to make for our Christmas Day dinner. I bought 3 huge heads of various lettuces yesterday!

Last weekend I made a batch of Craftyrn's Orange and Almond Biscotti for gifts. Delicious!

So....are you almost finished with your baking and meal prep?

lasagna and loaves of sourdough bread? i would have delivered the coolers to you had i been invited!!! i feel sort of like garfield--lasagna is one of my very favorite foods...

you may or may not be surprised to hear that indeed, i am done with all the baking that is gonna happen this season--last night i baked a couple poatoes to go with our meatloaf. couldn't think of a good reason to ruin a perfectly good holiday season so far :)

a trip to the grocery store yesterday yielded almost everything i need for our menu though, including a beautiful little standing rib roast. then i read joey's recipe for a chopped italian salad and decided i needed to add that so i'll just pick up some romaine when i stop for a chunk of pate on my way home from work tomorrow night. everything else is do at the last minute so i'm feeling pretty golden! enjoy the time with your family--i'm sure they'll be thrilled with your treats!

Teresa, I think your "Mom's Meals" for your boys sounds like an excellant idea. Doing something like that...from the heart...has so much meaning.

I read the reviews before our purchase that we made in 02/21. In the showroom the sofa was extremely comfortable, sat exactly how I needed it to sit for me. I'm 6'1", 225 lbs, 66 with a history of lower lumbar issues. It was delivered and was wonderful - for about a month. It sank at least two inches. Seriously, so much that when I used the sofa it began to increase my back pain and then began to cause difficulty getting up from the sofa because the sunken portion places me in a position where my pelvis is lower than my knees. I finally made a claim with our furniture company - which has been great to deal with - and they sent someone to look at it 06/21. Yes, there's a definite issue the repair man said, and yes, maybe it's just a bad piece of foam. BTW, both reclining ends did this. So new inserts were ordered and their repair man brought them and put them in on a Tuesday. Before the next Tuesday rolled around, the sinking feeling has returned and is worsening. There's definitely something not right with the quality of the foam used here, or there's something wrong with the platform that supports the foam. Everything else seems to be quality and is to be appreciated, but honestly, what good is reclining 'comfort' furniture if that comfort doesn't last more than a month or even less? With that said, I know there's nothing better out there. Seriously. I think folks just need to understand this isn't going to hold it's comfort the same way it does when you try it out in the showroom.

Breezy, I loved looking for tile, the research, the math, bringing home the samples, which the tile stores were happy to give me. Fortunately, besides a Dal Tile, there are several independent tile stores in my town that carry everything I could reasonably afford, so I didn't have more than a 5-mile drive. That being said, one sample tile doesn't give you a whole lot to go on, kinda like a paint chip. How many of us have been suckered by an amazing looking little paint chip? LOL So, here I sit with a neutral, blend-y backsplash that doesn't make me go, oh $hit! every time I enter the kitchen. For me, it now comes down to grout, a stumble near the finish line, but recovered just in time. I admire people who can pull off a unique, masterful b/s, but I'll just have to be content with cheering them on from the sidelines. Field tile and bullnose are enough for me. Welcome to my little re-creation of a public restroom! No, seriously, it's not that bad. Before my tile went up, my b/s area was a mess of old cement, three paint colors, and a scattering of holes. If it had been a decent surface, I might have even experimented with a painted facsimile of tiles to try out. I just wanted the darn thing covered. But I still think the search for tile is a lot of fun.

Regarding paint stripping--we have done it off some classic furniture we wanted to repurpose. We did this project nearly 10 years ago. I would not use the steel wool unless someone with authority has told you that is a wise idea. I would use a paint-stripping product. You have two basic routes on this. There are eco-friendly products and then there's Jasco. The Jasco products are serious chemicals and if you choose to use them yourself, you should buy or rent a true breathing mask (not just a little paper mask), wear gloves and follow ALL of their recommendations about room ventilation etc on the warning label. It's no joke. We went with the orange product, called Citristrip, it may have been slower, but it did work. It basically makes the paint bubble up, and then you slide it off with a putty knife, carefully so you don't nick the wood. You DO still need gloves, and don't let it touch your skin, but it's not nearly as lethal. Multiple applications may be necessary. I got some of my advice from a trendy furniture store that sells both new and classic pieces that they have distressed. This store also had references for businesses that specialize in furniture stripping, similar to what CeltinNE said. I bet there are some businesses like that in your area. Good luck!

I do know that we need to bake cookies for santa tomorrow..

I also have to make Honey Wheat rolls...and a gluten free french bread, so that I have bread for Woodies French Toast Casserole.

Bought the rib roast yesterday.

I just frosted a Banana Cake, and am waiting for Dino Nuggets to come out of the oven, so I can bake a Chocolate Cake.

Thinking about calling a girlfriend and asking if she and her two teens wanna come for dinner tonight....

I'm good to go! Everything is done and I'm twiddling my fingers! LOL Oh I lie, the table isn't set yet but all the china is out, silver is polished, lines are ironed and salt and pepper shakers are filled.

Only thing I had to do today was pick up the turkey and two prime ribs at the butcher! OUCH! He is a great butcher, and his meat is amazing, but it hurt! Twenty three pound fresh turkey...$89.00, Prime ribs were even more! Oh well it's Christmas!

I'm enjoying hearing about everyone's preparations! We're invited to a good friend's house for Christmas Day. She's been busy all weekend!
