Comments (5)Hi Wfspath, what about a species of the genus Arum? Arum rupicola http://aroid.org/genera/arum/rupicola/ Arum sintenisii http://www.aroid.org/genera/arum/sintenisii/index.html Arum elongatum http://www.aroid.org/genera/arum/elongatum/index.html Arum besserianum http://aroid.org/genera/arum/besserianum/ They look like your picture, but I have no idea about their size. Arum sintenisii http://dscherberich.free.fr/arsintenisii4.html looks mostly like yours! Maybe you find more on the Arum site of I.A.S: http://www.aroid.org/genera/arum/ Bye hermann Here is a link that might be useful: Arum sintenisii...See MoreA stinky pet-related question
Comments (6)Was the galvanized metal bucket galvanized-metal-bucket color? That might have been why your subdivision rulemakers had a snit. Perhaps if you painted it to blend in with the landscaping it might fly a bit better. Or go smaller. How much poop is being produced to require a can the size of an office trash can, do you have a herd of Great Danes or something? Our local Ace hardware store has lidded galvanized gallon buckets, which could be partially buried behind a bush and the lid painted to match your mulch. Punch some holes in the bottom of the bucket in case rain gets in. If you want to go the terracotta planter route, top it with the "dish" that goes underneath, upside down (or it will just collect rain and be a breeding ground for mosquitoes). Just don't get one that's too big or it'll be just as obtrusive. If you live in an area where the ground isn't frozen and temps aren't below 40 for a large chunk of the year, look into a little buried composter or miniature septic system like the Doggie Dooley. They don't do anything when the ground is frozen though, the bacteria that digest the poop go dormant or die. There is some maintenance with them, you have to add additional digester regularly, and you have to empty the poop bags into it rather than just chucking the whole thing in - I hear from other doggy people that it can't quite cope with even the compostable bags. The pickup bags we use, BioBag, are totally compostable and biodegradable even when buried. There are a couple of other brands of biodegradable bags, Four Paws (which has a nauseating baby powder scent) and OurPet, but after experimenting we like BioBag the best. Yard poop is buried in a corner of the yard under a flat rock (actually a big piece of roofing slate a neighbor found) and I've bunged some BioBags in there to find them becoming "mush" in just a couple of weeks. Also, FWIW, when we switched our dog to a grain-free, high-quality diet with a supplement containing digestive enzymes, the volume of poop produced dropped dramatically. Sorry to be gross but it went from a big handful to a couple of little pieces, and he's definitely not constipated. He just digests more of what he eats, leaving much less waste to be eliminated (and thus picked up by us responsible humans)....See MoreStinky woodwork
Comments (10)That was my first thought, patser. I've renovated more than a few houses over the years, and most have been homes of smokers. The initial stale smoke smell was rather easily removed along with old carpet, wallpaper, a good wall scrub, and floor mop. Varnished or shellac on woodwork, or even plain wood didn't retain that scent. Everything is blamed on smokers, LOL. I have had a lot of difficulty, however, in removing pet urine smells from wood, because the liquid soaks deep, and the bacteria in it multiplies and has a life of its own, and the ammonia smell is pungent in its own right. Enzymes were the ultimate answer, and I got the cleaner from a pet dispensary. Wood in old houses has a distinctive aroma, and the dampness brings it out, for sure. Even in completely renovated or cleaned old houses.....prolly forever. I find that smell rather pleasant, however. Not like stinky B.O. My guess is old urine....See Morestinky kitten!
Comments (10)I haven't ever heard of a cat with anal gland problems, only dogs. Does kitty's fur/body have a bad odor? I'm just wondering if it could be gas from worms and the de-worming process. If so, the situation should resolve itself once kitty has his followup de-worming and it has time to take effect. Intestinal parasites can cause digestive upsets (gas and runny poop,) esp in one so young. I wouldn't bathe him unless the bad odor is actually in his fur. Cats never or seldom need bathing unless they get into something really disgusting. Good luck with your new kitty and hoping he soon smells like a little flower!...See Moredebd18
