Sorry... just bored and lonely and thought I'd share the latest thing I've been working on. Took me about two hours... two hours of pure happiness... now, I'm done... back to the bored and lonely crap... isn't it really nice when you can actually "immerge" yourself in something you really like to do and forget about all the stupid stuff that is happening around you?? What do all of you do to take your mind off of stuff??

I actually "named" this one... :o)

It's called "Angel Waiting"

Ok... the medium has started to dry out and the baby is starting to change to green. Im pretty sure that ive been over watering them in an attempt to keep them moist before they sprout. When to Remove Heating Mat Question

I am not an expert in these things but I tell you what I am doing. The heating Mat is removed or turned-off as soon as I see any sprout. I have home made green house (not a fancy one) In the Basement I several tables and old desks with flourcent lamps hanging from the ceiling. I have over 100 4 Inches plastic pots with good drainage put on plastic plates. I leave, may be one foot between the lamp and the Plants. As soon as the pot sprout I move it from the heating Mat. I read if you leave it on the heating mat it will grow long leggy and thin. As for growing lights I leave 24/7. From my observation Tomato, Cuccuumber, Squash are growing like crazy, Pepper Egg plant are growing but very slow.

I don't think most people looking at my garden would notice the various styles of gardens as they are all sort of cottage style with a mix of plants and a lot of overlap. My garden is currently 'in transition' so not sure exactly how it will end up! LOL Depends on how much I can stick to the plan I *may* make in the new year. January/February is usually when I plan my garden but have almost never been able to follow the plan so who knows! So based on history I have had several different types of gardens based on location. I have an area with mostly conifers in my front garden so had a shade garden which was not very successful as those trees take all the moisture and nutrients and it's a struggle to keep it amended and watered enough. Have now had the trees limbed up so there will be less shade and have amended and mulched heavily. It will still be a dry-ish garden so I need to use appropriate plants there. The only plant that survives well there is Lily of the Valley but it isn't invasive as the soil is dry and poor so it's a good place for it. Another area is near the bird feeder and birdbath and I allowed several different types of perennials to self-seed for years so it was a jungle and I called it my 'wild bird garden'. This area has now had all weeds and self-seeders removed and has many spaces between plants. I hope to *never* again allow it to go wild. I'm using a lot of cardboard and mulch to help with this. There are lilacs, a spirea, perennial sunflowers, delphinium, and some new perennials but there are lots of spaces for other plants and I'll move several from other areas. I also have a couple of "dry-er" gardens that are further away from the house so I infrequently water those and only tough plants survive there. Various poppies, irises, day lilies, potentilla, and perennial sunflowers are there. Nearer the house I have my rose bed with a few other perennials and usually annuals. There are also several very mixed perennial beds with many hardy perennials and a few shrubs. These are the beds that get tended the most and they are too full so many plants will be moved to other areas in the spring. Some plants I will move are columbine, Lady's Mantle, iris, lilies, some groundcovers, lamb's ears, maybe delphinium, blue flax. I also plan to propagate more Walker's Low catmint as can hardly have too many of these. I always add herbs in between the perennials so need to leave/make spaces for them. Everything I grow is extremely frost hardy altho I do push the zone a bit and have some zone 4 plants. Everything else is considered an annual. I'm amazed you use lilacs lavender lass to keep the deer away as the deer here have loved my lilacs. I now have deer-proof fencing so hopefully will see lilac blooms next year and be able to grow many other plants.

I think I need to make a correction. My second to last pic above--the combo of climber Sombreuil and clematis Rhapsody--I don't think that clematis is Rhapsody. I seem to remember Rhapsody as having more of a blue stripe down the center of each petal--which means I probably planted it on the other side of my yard climbing up the Austin rose Queen of Sweden. When that blooms, I'll post a picture. Anyway, combing through my memory (which plays tricks on me), I'm going to say the purple clematis paired with the white rose Sombreuil is probably called "Viola." I think--maybe perhaps. : ( Strange how I can name every one of my 65 roses, but names blur together for everything else. Kate

I think it is very pretty. :) I wish I could draw like you can. I can make a good stick person. Haha! Anyway, oddly enough, when I clean I tend to forget any craziness that might be going on. Whatever works, right?

I like to paint, write, sing and eat when I'm bored! Also, take a nice long bath, watch a movie and read.

Very nice work! I love to read, scrapbook or paint when I get bored. I just don't have a lot of time to paint anymore. It is nice to have something to occupy your down time!

Beautiful picture. I do 'computer art' where I turn a photo into a water color or ink drawing. I also make jewelry and glass beads. Plus lots of gardening. I know what you mean about immersing yourself into something creative to get away from things in your life.

She is beautiful. I couldn't trace it that good LOL. I always wished I could draw and really wanted to paint. At least learn how to do it even if I never got good at it. Don't know why you aren't making money with your talent.

Nicki...That's a really good drawing! I have an idea for you. Are you able to draw a likeness from a photograph? If so, you might be able to make a few $$$ by doing that.

I happen to like drawings of my family. There's a woman in the next town that does that. I haven't checked her prices yet, but I want to see if she'll do one of my granddaughters. We have a local artist that does that in watercolor for big bucks, but I just want a simple drawing.

If you haven't tried it yet, you could practice on your girls' photos...see how people like it...and go from there. Also, family pets are something that people like to have drawings of.

Just a thought because you obviously have artistic talent!
