They show two versions of the Maris, one with a conventional tank and one with a tank that's hidden behind the wall between the studs. Both of them are dual-flush units, which I have no experience with, but these don't seem to use conventional flappers but rather a more elaborate flush valve assembly, either THU356 (regular tank) or THU322href> (in-wall tank). Note: I have not actually used this exact product on my Drake II; rather I bought the adjustable flapper to replace a solid flapper from a Gerber Viper 1.28gpf that I thought could use more water per flush, then moved the old Gerber flapper to the Toto, which made it flush using a bit more water, though I should note that it does a fine job even with 1.28gpf and I may switch back. I'm just paranoid about overflowing toilets when there's expensive new carpeting right outside the bathroom.

We've had a Coroma dual flush toilet (1.28/.8 gal) for several years and have never had a clog. We occasionally have to flush twice, but that's it. My daughter has a Kohler that functions like the one you have and I did have to plunge it once when I was there.

Hi, OP here. Thanks for the replies. The seller/rehab company is seemingly being very responsive, and there's been no need for me to be threatening. I believe all municipal inspections were passed. But, that doesn't mean the plumbing contractor they used wasn't an idiot. They are going to try to address these problems, but I want as much knowledge on the subjects as I can get so that i'm not snowed and ask the right questions. They've said they will rip and up and replace so much of the shower floor as is needed to get the slope right (though I think 2 drains probably should have been installed). As for the clogs, the GC who the seller/rehab co. had used refuses have his plumber look at it, so the seller/rehab co. is going to bring in another plumber at his expense. Of course, I'm still tempted to bring in my own plumber to second guess what they say.

Michelle- “Any reason NOT to get One-Piece Toilet??“ I can’t think of any. I replaced all of the four contractor-grade toilets in my current home with one-piece Totos. I’ve also installed two-piece toilets in prior homes. I have no idea why people are claiming it’s harder to install a one piece toilet. It’s a little heavier because you don’t have a tank to bolt on later, but one- piece just makes the install faster. As long as it’s set properly — an issue with any toilet — it’s no big deal. And I can tell you that, when you have men using a toilet, a one-piece is a lot easier to keep clean when you don’t have to deal with the seam between the tank and the bowl that you have with a two-piece. ;-)
