My favorite, fast baby afghan is to just make a granny square blanket in the pastel baby colors. Not joined granny squares, but one great big one that you make as big as you need. Crochets up quick and is great for using up scraps.

my daughter decided lacy would be to easy for fingers to get tangled up in. she is making this one for her nee-fyoo (what she calls the baby, since she doesn't know if it is going to be a nephew or a niece).

It is really a dishcloth pattern, but all you have to do, is cast on more stitches. :)

Here is the original

Materials: 1 ball Cotton yarn, Size 6 US
needles.

Directions:
Multiple of 4 plus 2; Cast on 40 stitches.
Knit 4 Rows for border.
Rows 1 and 2: Knit;
Row 3: (RS) K3, P2, *K2, P2; repeat from *
across to last 3 sts. K3.
Row 4: K5, * P2, K2; repeat from * to last 3
sts. K3.
Rows 5 and 6: Knit;
Row 7: K5, *P2, K2; repeat from * across to last 3 sts. K3.
Row 8: K3, P2, *K2, P2; repeat from * across to last 3 sts. K3.
Repeat these 8 rows until desired length;
Knit 4 rows for border, bind off. Weave in ends and enjoy.

I should have said that I need it in crochet...while I can knit,I'm very slow at it.I can crochet much faster. I think I'll go with the granny square one.There's a pattern for it in Connies Link.I already bought the yarn.It's a blue/purple varigated knobby type yarn.So can't make the tri colored one.Thanks everyone!
Kat,the weightloss is slow,I've lost about 10 lbs.I have to go to the nutritionist 3 more times.She's a joke,doesn't help at all.She's only there because the insurance says she has to be. Should move on to the next step in late May/early June.

I LOVE the round ripples. I make them with baby yarn or worsted weight. The look can be changed drastically depending on what color combinations you use. The pattern is free online, at AngelFire, I think.
