Amber, Every calender month has one full moon,(rarely two- the second would be called a blue moon) August's full moon is called Sturgeon Moon,folk lore and tradition says it's the easiest day of the year to catch migrating Sturgeon in rivers.I never caught a sturgeon so I can't comment on it's validity. Full moons are good days to plant seeds and do other various gardening chores,the moon has a pull on the water table much like it has an effect on the oceans with tides ect.. hope this helps a little

Yikes, I was gonna say! A blue moon doesn't have anything to do with color....but that it's the second full moon this month. That happens everyone once in a blue moon (hardly ever). So, we are ALL having a blue moon, each and every one of us.

I read this on another site last night: December 12 Â The Full Cold Moon Sky watchers will be dazzled by an exceptionally high, bright, and large Moon. In fact, this Moon is 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full Moons this year. Why? The Moon is both in its full phase and at a point in its orbit that is nearest Earth, called its perigee. When these events occur together, the Moon is closer to Earth than usual. The effect? The Full Cold Moon will appear especially large near the horizon as the Sun sets. The Moon is also high at this time of year; when it's overhead (near midnight), it will light up the landscape. Take a magical stroll and see your world at night. You won't need a flashlight! Lucky for us, it was the perfect night to view the eclipse and the big Harvest Moon. I'd made chili, and we had a late dinner of it out on our back portal while we enjoyed the "show". We spend hours out there just talking and watching the eclipse unfold. At one point, DH went in and made us Cuba Libres. It was a wonderful, very special way to spend the evening. Will try again in, what, 33 more years?
