During a rainstorm, you will not find a butterfly house full of butterflies waiting for a break in the weather. runmede: Were your friend's Question Marks (or were they Commas?) observed overnighting or overwintering in the butterfly house? Perhaps they were perched or basking on it.

Beautiful Minrose! Especially that first one. I've only visited the butterfly house in St. Louis. I loved seeing the tropical butterflies and plants. My kids were little and still remember it. I think having the butterflies land on them makes a big impression.

I think the first one is a variable cracker - like me? :) - and there are a lot of longwings/Heliconians, like in all butterfly houses. Anybody know what that gorgeous third one is? Sherry

Butterfly houses work as decorative items in the yard, but butterflies will not take up lodging in them. Wasps and spiders might. If the feeder is simply a device that presents a surface to place food on, they work fine. Both of these topics are covered in this forum's FAQ.
