Not worth worrying about. I like lemon in my ice water.

Here is a link that might be useful: Snopes

Let the games BEGIN!!!!!

I'll go pop some popcorn, this is going to be fun.

Hey, Lydia! Can I get you some lemon for your water? NO? I'll take it, then. I love lemons, pile 'em on me!

DARN!! I always check my emails against Snopes, but I didn't in this case. Funny thing is, I just checked one I got previous to this one about cell phones exploding when you talk on them when they are charging.

But this one made total sense to me. Why wouldn't someone contact e-coli or something from not washing their hands, then they put a lemon in your drink?? Yuck!

I do the same thing sometimes... post without looking it up first. No biggie. I don't mind people posting links to the urban myths either.

LOL Flamingo!

I love lemons, and still eat them, even out at bars, when bartenders touch them with their BARE HANDS! hahahaha!

I like lemon but hate it in my water. Makes it taste dirty to me. I always order water without lemon in restaurants.

Linda

I always drink ice water WITHOUT lemon, but they seem to forget :o(

Well, the lemons I have had in my drinks have all been fine, didn't get sick.

They are putting bugs in our heads and why not just stop from eating and doing everything as everytime we turn around they are telling us to not eat this or that and don't combine those together and on and on and on it goes.

There is a risk and that we have to factor in when we do eat and do things.

On a recent episode of "The Doctors", they brought up this same subject and apparently considered it to be of concern. No more lemons for me.

Cynic's Rule #2: If it's from an email, it most likely is not true (especially at election time)

I worked at a restaurant when I was in high school. You DON'T want to know what goes on in the kitchen! LOL Lemons would be the least of my concern. Ever watch Kitchen Nightmares? That's not that much of an exaggeration. Ever watch Marvin Zindler's Rat & Roach Report? (Is he still alive?) There's SLIME in the ice machine!

Is there bacteria on there? Sure. Is there bacteria on the tables, chairs, door handles, the people sitting next to you, YOU, slimy kids, money, your car, phone, keyboard and more? Of course.

Guess the solution could be to switch to lime or orange slices, eh?

Yeah, Mingo you can have my lemon. LOL I still got some of those little lemon packets you gave me. They're sterile, right?? :-)

I used to work at restaurants - I know what goes on in the cooler. The lemons are just the start of my problems. hehehee....

OK, my opinion- if you don't challenge your immune system, it will get lazy and you'll get sick a lot. If you're scared of the lemons, you better be afraid of everything, because there's no telling who has touched what, when or where. And gloves aren't the solution, either, because people who wear gloves and then touch anything that someone else has touched will have just then undone any possible good that the glove had provided.

Personally, I'd rather have a slice of lime, but I'll take lemon. Anything to disguise the taste of city water, please!

Yes, Lydia, they're sterile AND probably hard as a rock. lol I still laugh when I think of your lemony condiment wallet. :)

I'll have a lemon slice in my drink. I count on the alcohol to kill the bacteria ;)

I'm FAR from having a sterile, super-clean, neurotic environment. I'm a firm believer in needing impurities to strengthen our immune system. I'm often found rummaging in my worm bins without using gloves.

I don't use anti-bactierial soaps, those disinfecting wipes to clean the counters etc. There is far too much advertising that one has to do battle with every little germ. There is more sickness among kids today than we ever had as a kid....and it's all because at the slimmest sign of a cold, they get rushed to the doctor.

But it was just this little video that made me want to post this. I like a slice of lemon or lime in my water if I can, at restaurants and bars. There has been a number of people getting sick at retaurants over the years from staff not washing their hands, then putting the lettuce on burgers and making people sick with e-coli. So this is one more example, that I think is highly possible.

I don't like lemon in my water. But I love lime in my margarita. I think, like Barbara, the alcohol will kill the bacteria.
Leslie

Whether or not you believe the lemon may have bacteria on it is up to you, myself I believe they are not very sanitarily handled and prefer not to have one on my drink.
But then I think about the ice cubes, and have often seen ice with chunks of dirt, bits of food or even bugs in it.
So what's a person to do...
I agree with Flamingo that eliminating all bacteria from your world is a good way to get sick. All those anti-bacterial dish soaps etc are likely going to cause a generation of people with immune systems less able to handle a basic germ.
Considering the size of a lemon or lime slice, I wouldn't think it would be a big enough issue to seriously infect anyone - but whaddoIknow...lol.

If you don't want bacteria on your food, then never eat at a buffet or a restaurant for that matter. How many people do you see leave the restroom in a restaurant without washing their hands and then go straight to the buffet? We were in a restaurant one time and Alex had just left the bathroom. Some man came out about the same time and went up to the buffet and Alex told us all that he had just "taken a dump" and didn't wash his hands. Multiply that by at least 50% (probably more) of the men who don't wash after they go, plus all the women who don't wash either. It's a wonder we're all still alive.

Just as I don't get overly concerned over a few germs, I also don't believe the hype about antibacterial soaps destroying the universe. The pendulum swings both ways.

Considering the size of a lemon or lime slice, I wouldn't think it would be a big enough issue to seriously infect anyone - but whaddoIknow...lol
I do hope that *is* just a joke, since we all know the size of bacteria. Maybe I'm still reeling from an old, er, make that a former GF just died a month or so ago from MRSA septic shock so I've been doing some thinking about bacteria, parasites and germs. And it reminds me about the problems with going to the doctors and hospitals so often.

Germs are around us. Trying to keep sanitary without insisting on sanitizing everything is more important to me. I got a kick out of the reports about how bachelor kitchens overall were cleaner than the kitchens of the compulsive cleaners. I'm reminded of it, and it makes me chuckle every time I see that commercial where they show the woman wiping down the refrigerator with raw chicken! That is a commercial with impact.

And for those who fear buffets, there's some truth to it but I'm sure you don't want family style serving either. About the same, without the sneeze guards! :)

We've talked about it before, but after seeing sinks in public restrooms, I'm often tempted to take my chances. And I really dislike touching the bathroom door handles. After all, the employees may have just touched them! I maintain the bathroom doors should open out so you don't have to touch them with your hands when leaving. But I usually use a paper towel anyway.

Just saw on the news last night that once again, they misjudged the flu type for this season and now it's about over. Washing your hands properly does far more good than flu shots but people think they can do anything if they get a needle stuck in them once a year. Surprising how many people sneeze into their hands instead of the recommended elbow.

Oh, I'm reminded of Donald Trump during an interview. He hates it when people come up to him in a restaurant and want to shake his hand while he's eating. And he has a good point with the slimeballs that are out there.

I used to work in a restaurant. I saw ketchup bottles poured together at the end of the night, servers grabbing servings of salad with their bare hands, all kinds of gross stuff. One day the toilets backed up, we were walking in sh*t and the place stayed open. I was sick the next day with a terrible stomach illness. Luckily I have a strong immune system or I'd never eat out.

I was drinking tea the other night in a restaurant and someone reminded me of this. I actually couldn't finish my tea! lol I'm such a germ freak. From talking to people that I know who have worked in restaurants, I know that there are a lot of unsanitary things going on and dirty lemons are only one of many food items which are touched with nasty hands. I do my best to keep my hands clean and try not to think about the things that I cannot control and I REALLY don't want to stop going out to eat. I like to eat too much. lol
