Help me Convert Skillet Dinner to Casserole

I almost never make casseroles, so I don't have any feel for them. This is a quick skillet dinner I threw together that turned out very well. I've made it more than once because it's one of the few ways DH likes broccoli. This makes dinner for us, plus my lunch the next day.

It seems like I should be able to do most of the steps ahead of time, then refrigerate and bake later. I'm just not sure what point to stop, time & length of bake, etc. I don't want to end up with mushy broccoli, or pull out a dish that's not quite cooked or heated all the way through! I would probably double the quantities if I were making this ahead.

This is roughly the way I make it now. How do I turn this in to a make-ahead dish?

Skillet Ham Broccoli and Rice

2 tbsp. EVOO or butter

1 medium onion, chopped

1 head broccoli, chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

2/3 cup rice

1/3 pound chopped ham

1.5 cups chicken broth

splash of white wine

salt & pepper

2 handfuls shredded swiss cheese

Heat oil in large skillet. Add onion, salt & pepper and cook on medium until it starts to soften. Add garlic, rice & more salt & pepper. Cook and stir about 2 minutes. Add ham and broccoli. Stir another minute, then add broth. Bring to a boil, check for seasoning, then turn down to low simmer and cover the pan. In 15 minutes, check for doneness. If rice is done but there is extra liquid, remove lid and continue cooking until liquid evaporates. Remove from heat and spread cheese on top of rice. Cover for 5 minutes and serve.
