Thanks for all the suggestions! Here is the one x 'Country Magazine' (it also calls for 'soda' which I don't see mentioned in the recipes here). Also, I use a heating pad for my old yeast recipe but tried one of those long heating plates/trays w/ a thermostat for this recipe & it works great ... no dipping out cooled water & adding hot, etc.! Was funny to read the original old recipe, old phrases & the way quantities were named; I can just see a woman making this outside her covered wagon or sod hut! DAY 1 Starter: 8 T. cornmeal 'pinch' of salt 'pinch' of 'soda' 1 tsp. sugar Put all in pint screw cap jar (I used a Mason 2 C.jar), mix well & 'fill' (no quantity mentioned here?) with scalding water, stir well, cover & let set overnite in a warm place (I put it in a pan of warm water on the heating tray rather than having to keep dipping out cooled water & adding warm water, etc. as the original old recipe called for). DAY 2: In large bowl, add: 1 qt. milk (or 1/2 milk & 1/2 water) add starter 1/2 tsp. salt white flour to make stiff batter Stir well & cover & I placed it in pan of warm water on the warming tray 3-4 hrs. (if slow to rise, stir again & place back on warmer) when dough rises: add 1 tsp. salt ( again!thus I guess: 'salt bread'!) 3-4 T. shortening (I used bacon grease... probably what the pioneers used also!) flour to make stiff dough, knead 10 mins.,put in greased loaf pans (makes 3 large loaves for me), let rise to double in size. Bake 375 degrees 30-40 mins.; remove from oven & butter crusts well. I hope with repeated use this recipe will be quicker for me to make! I liked the texture but kinda missed my grandmother's bread with the 'yeast' aroma! This made 3 large loaves for me.

To Balthus, I am on FemHRT since Feb 2001 and have got along very well. I have no periods since being on FemHRT. I am 48 years old. No children as well, two benign cysts (some of those that come and go) in one breast, the other has calcifications. Basically all HRT's are trial and error. What might work for me, might not for you. My nerves are better. My sex life is better. I don't sleep well though, haven't in ages. Still have hot sweats, but not really bad. You've accomplished a lot by quitting smoking, exercising, cutting out alcohol, lowering your cholesterol. I'm sorry you are having a hard time finding employment. I feel that a lot of your symptoms are due to menopause, but a lot are due to your situation. I'll be praying for you. I found prayer helps a lot of things. It has helped to save my marriage during the difficult time when I was on OrthoPrefest which about drove me crazy with nerves and constant bleeding. The FemHRT has been good. A lot of people say don't go on hormones, but I am on the low end of normal with my bone density and a specialist in the bone density area told me to go on HRT. So good luck. This is a good site. You can read how others have gotten along on certain medications and also know that you aren't alone in all the symptoms whether they've been through hard times with finances or not.

okay I was just going to post the ERROR I am getting to see if it was me or the site. Darn...I was going to run to the store to get something for supper and thought I'd see what she had to offer. I'm not hungry and it's hard for me to think of what to cook when I'm not hungry yet. thanks Nita patti

Indeed, the Drummonds have a large holding and the ranch was homesteaded in the early 1900s. The horses bugged me for a long time on PW. It has only been recently she revealed the ranch is paid (alot of money) by the government to care for BLM horses. Until she did so the unitiated would believe the Drummonds took care of the horses out of the goodness of their hearts..which they didn't. That bothered me. I guess because I knew something the average reader did not and could not know until PW enlightened them. At first I got a big kick out of her blog. She made me laugh so much because she didn't take herself seriously. She admitted she was not a country girl and was doing the best she could. Unfortunately for me anyway, that has changed. The whole tone of her blog is different now. She doesn't make fun of herself like she used to. She has also contradicted herself many time in regards to the ranch, her abilities and her participation on the ranch and I don't understand why. Her motto was always 'keepin it real' and I don't see that anymore. I'm just disappointed. I miss the old Pioneer Woman. Lori
