I think it would work fine either way. I applied it to the greenhouse frame, but only because I had some doubt about how long the weatherstripping might last in our heat. I thought it might be easier to scrape off the old and replace it if I was scraping the metal frame, and not the poly panels, but that may prove a silly worry. The frame really isn't designed for weatherstripping, and I found it helpful to hold a panel in first to see where it contacted the frame. On some sides I had to "perch" the foam strip on a fairly narrow aluminum ridge, but as soon as I had the panel clipped down on top, it worked fine. It took me longer to weatherstrip the opening than to attach the panel with clips and screws, but I'm still glad I did it. Sheri

Your not suppose to go straight over the vinyl. Plasticizer migration of the existing plastic top layer of sheet vinyl, with mess with the adhesive. Your suppose to emboss the surface of the vinyl, with a product made just for that, Like Ardex SD-F Feather finish. All self stick tiles require a primer, that is part of the system. As soon as you start listening and believeing the help at the big box stores like Lowe's and Home Depot, your on your way to failure.

You must have a smooth substrate for any resilient flooring material to look good for any length of time. You can smooth your floor with Ardex Feather Finish or an equivalent product, prime the surface with the primer recommended by the tile manufacturer and then install your new tile over that.

Have you thought how you're going to have them lean without them slipping? Some shelves have lips (like shelves that are advertised as plate shelves), but otherwise you'll have to install a piece of floor edge molding to do it (and then paint the molding to match the shelf). OR, you could stick a piece of the clear museum gel in front of the album, but I'd be concerned about damaging the part of the album it's touching. An alternative method is to install metal "U" channel pieces to the wall, the exact height of an album, so that the albums slides in between them. Hardware stores sell U channel, which typically have small screw holes along it.
