Kinda wet....

I contrasted and lowered gamma, taken thru windshield of vehicle...It had been raining for at least day/half...

We haven't had storms like we use to when first moved here...Actually The downpours and T&L were "paralyzing"

but after being here awhile...I took my kids out and storm chased...it was exhilariating...I understand danger/ous...and would never put them in danger nor do anything stupid BUT AlSO didn't want them to be afraid. A few years ago the three-four roads wouldn't take us to home cos of trees down afterwards...

This wasn't T&L storming but a very nice rain and in town...

Sorry I rambled...Especially when there seems to be no connection...My brain just gets ahead of me or behind...

Well this was a late night run to the store...I waited to snap when the wipers went on their down cycle...

Wow, I just love it. You chose the perfect night for this with all the reflections and lights bouncing off the pavement. Excellent shooting!

I know what you mean by storms being exhilarating.

I have been wanting to learn to do some night photography. This will be my motivation;~)

I can't say Brian what is the matter with yours since we grow under very different condtions, but I can tell you how I grow mine -- which has three spikes of flowers at present. This would not have been a purchase of choice because my conditions are not overly suitable, but a friend needed to find a home for the plant. Plant is mounted on a strip of wood (w/bark). I kept it outdoors on the screened porch with bright light all winter as long as the temperatures didn't drop below freezing at night. Day temps were in the 40-60 degree range. Watered when it was almost dry. It started spiking the end of Feb. The plant did not lose any excess leaves, but seems to only keep two or three at any time. I've had to move it to my kitchen windowsill in the a/c now for the summer since it won't tolerate temps above the 70s for any extended period of time. Hope something in this will give you a clue as to what your plant's problem is. Are you sure it is mature enough to bloom?

sumala - Plumies are one of my passions. They really don't care much about soil as long as it is well draining and they do not get wet feet. They also are not fert hogs. Mine are all in full to partial sun. The ones in full sun seem to be more glorious then those getting part shade. Occasionally they may get a orange rust fungus. Although it does not seem to harm the plant, it is just unsightly, causes leaf drop, and I still have found no cure for it. Here's some of my plumies. As you can see most of mine came from garden web friends! Miami Rose (thanks tropical freak) Pudica bridal Veil (Thanks joanm and katkin_ Aztek Gold (thanks Lady) Unknown red Wine colored Most of mine are in ground here in SW FL but I also have many in large planters. They are so easy to grow and making new plants by cuttings is easy. Just allow the stem to cure and dry out a few days then plant is moist soil. Some people dislike the fact that they are dicidous and look like gnarly sticks in winter. I do not mind this at all. I find the trees to be very interesting in shape and know come spring they will once again be covered with leaves and beautiful flowers.

I have the same issue and am working on it too. If you hit on a great method, I would love to know! Ponding it isn't an option for me, even though I had a pair of ducks paddling about a few weeks ago..LOL Mine is a large city lot, with heavy clay soil. Two neighbors graded their lots with drainage toward mine (decades ago). When it rains it turns the corner of my yard in to a big giant puddle. It takes days to dry out leaving a squishy mess fit only for weeds. With the loss of the only tree in that area of the yard, it is bound to get worse. I added a layer of black dirt last year, but it didn't make a huge dent. This year, the chips from the stump grinding of the pine tree that pulled up due to the wetness and wind,are being added in to try to lighten the soil. Today I planted a butterfly bush and baby joe pye weed to see if they would grow. It needs something to break up the clay and be able to tolerate wetness in the spring, but hot full sun in the summer. I am trying to figure out what else to plant that might help do this. Any ideas?

Some things I learned helping somebody do respite (short stay) for foster kids: A piece of plexiglass cut to the same size of the night stand and placed on top will go a long way in protecting the finish. If it isn't glass rings, there can be spills of nail polish or remover, permanent marker or pen marks etc. Hooks. Lots and lots of hooks. Back of the door, along the wall, at the side of the bed. If she wants to sleep on a damp bed, that is her perogative. But if she is hanging the wet towel on actual furniture and ruining it, that is a different issue. Do you sew? Maybe make some sort of cover for the headboards using clear vinyl, or inexpensive vinyl tablecloths? As for the water on the counter, I would be pissed as well. Our friends eventually put in a second bath that contained a shower stall (no tub), toilet, and a pedistal sink. That way the kids weren't leaving their personal things all over the bathroom counter, then fighting over it later. She gives them each a basket to keep their bathroom items in, and it is stored in a cubby hanging in the bedroom. Take it in with you, take it out with you, and nobody touches your stuff. Dances.

Juanita, I'm kinda amazed you didn't get more comments on your picture. I know how hard it is to get good night shots. It's so clear, wonderful reflections.

There just doesn't seem to be anyone visiting this forum anymore. It's a shame.

I don't post much anymore but I always look at everyone's photos, and I've seen some great ones. This is a wonderful picture.

Thanks Marnie and Gmom....that's okay...it sometimes really is touch n go here...but sometimes i'm not able to post right away either...I do check it out still....

I would really to get out more at night to see if I can pull something like this off again...Since I wasn't the driver I was waiting poised...shutter button half way down and snapping before that light turned green....LOL...a simple thing like that was fun....
