If they don't get enough to eat, their population will re-balance itself.

Looks like the Silver Argiope. SHE is a fascinating spider to observe. Harmless to humans, they capture plenty of insects.

Great information! The Huntsman spider we found in our house might not have been of medical importance, but he was almost big enough to carry off small pets and children. The link says they don't grow as big as turnip trucks, but radish trucks are definitely a possibility. (Ours lurked in a corner for a while then found his way back outside--no children or pets were missing. We counted to be sure.)

And a fine looking spider he is! This year, I have not seen even one of these guys/gals. A lot of the usual 'bugs' have been few in number or absent in my gardens this summer. No japanese beetles to speak of (that was a blessing) and aphids weren't all that bad. So maybe the spiders didn't have enough to eat. We do have ample stinkbugs. Does anybody eat them?
