Well, my all-time favorite is BUTTERSCOTCH Climber aka JACtan. It's not exactly that great of a bloomer, but it's my favorite because it introduced me to the world of the unusual or as I call them the "oddball" colored roses. Browns, tans, greys, greens, whatever. But when I first saw this rose I immediately had to have it. There was a home-improvement, member-type chain store several decades ago called Home Base (before Home Depot) and they always had the coolest potted roses. They had a whole display of these BUTTERSCOTCH roses in 2gal pots with those thick wooden stakes. I had never bought a 2gal rose before, and I think it was probably around $13.99 or something like that, which in those days was a lot... but no way was I going to pass up this totally unusual, paper bag brown, beautifully formed rose. I have always been attracted to the unusual, oddball, off the wall, unwanted, imperfect, assymetrical, you-name-it in everything in life. So seeing a BROWN rose. No way! There couldn't be such a thing!!!!That was about 2-3yrs into my rose growing experience. It became the catalyst for me to go on the hunt for all roses unobtainable. Magazines, books, rose societies, and then the internet. OMG how could there be so many unusual roses out there?? And being a collector of many things, that just became my newest thing to collect. Thank you Bill Warriner and Jackson & Perkins for fueling my magnificent obsession! These are just a few pics, and not the best ones. I'm at work and only have pics from 2016 & 2017. The rose is generally more "brown" than what these photos show. And it often gets a greyish-lavender with yellow undertones. Very cool rose! And very thorny.

Hydrangea and Rose Slope Front Yard Landscaping Help

Inspired by @kitasei2 's comment, maybe I'll plant something short and purple in color in front of the stone foundation. I'm also thinking extending the flowerbed south of the sidewalk. That will give me another 16-18 feet and should be able to put in three or four more Bobos. In the next picture, I put down the white hose to line out the idea and added a few images. Behind the bobos, I'm thinking of putting a few earth angels or two earth angels and one or two Olivia Austin. It still seems to need a punctuation somewhere. Maybe a Tiffany blue tall planter by the corner of front porch and front steps. The all-wood siding panel and railing seems a little dark and need to brighten up somehow. Any suggestions? This is the view when we walk up to the front door. As you can see, we are in a woodland setting and there is lots of green in the summer but not much color. In the far background, I plan to plant a row of blue Endless summer by an old lilac bush. We rebuilt a water feature and I've got ideas about the plants I want for a Japanese-inspired water feature garden there. It's the front yard that I'm stressing out a little. I can't decide whether I should move the bottom two Bobos closer to the path or just plant something there (iris, or lilic tree, or snapdragon). Can't decide what to do with the slope on the right either... I'm still trying to figure out my garden style and the landscaping that fits the house architecture. It is helpful just to allow me to think aloud with you guys here. Any ideas about general landscaping or plant choices are welcome! Sorry these two pictures seem to be small still. But when we put the mouse cursor on the image, there's a plus sign and hit that would enlarge the image. Sorry for my technical clumsiness. If you can't see these two images, please simply look at the three large ones in the original post and share what you'd do! Thanks!

Diane, I disbudded my Annie Laurie McD for four years to get maximum size. It was well worth it. ALMcD also likes to be grafted. That is a rose I will miss, since it doesn't grow well (at all?) in a zone 5 climate. All my roses are babies newly planted this summer. So far Icecap looks as though it will be a good bloomer, but it is too early to tell. And since we have freezing temperatures overnight, I doubt it would bloom in November even if/when mature.
