My flowers are out of metal so I just drill through the plate or whatever I am using. I have made glass ones and using a drill press have also drilled through the glass but it is harder. Someone may be able to tell you the right bit to use and use water or something else to keep where you are drilling cool. Another idea is to watch for candy dishes that already have a hole in them or a tiered plate stand that you can just take apart and thread unto a pole of copper or whatever you will attach the flower to.

The quilt is for my son. He is a professional firefighter. I made a quilt for my DL but wanted to make something for his bunk at the station. But most the time you can only find kids prints. Then in Keepsake quilt mag I saw a adult theme and my head started spinning with all the idea's. I searched for months to get the right stuff. Most of the print is vintage looking. I am going to have my daughter in law take a better picture of it. I finished it in time for my oldest son to take it to Mike. They both live about 4 hrs away. So I took some quick pictures and sent it off. In fact I didn't take the pictures or look at them. I was kind of bummed when I did. Because it didn't show the colors every well at all. The stars were all surrounded in a batik red fabric. It had gold stars in it. The main solid looking color wasn't really solid, it was a marbled....then the back was a deep red with tiny gold dots. It was a very warm colored quilt. Sarah is very good at pictures, so I hope to get some nice ones of it.... As for the dog of course! ha-ha I can't seem to do anything without a dog involved. I have papillons. You should see when I have to lay one out totally. I have to run done the hall, and bet them to the bedroom. Then close the door. If not, you would think I put down a freshly mowed lawn on the bed. They all want up to see it...smell it and then roll on it..and then take a nap. I have no idea why. Maybe they are spoiled rotten! Thanks, I am excited about how it looks since I was so nervous it would be too much that I almost had them install it as an accent behind the bar area which meant it would have to be made into a long pattern. I really wanted my island slab in Before I decided about putting it behind my cooktop. 'twas not to be with the crazy timing of my workers; so I took a deep breath and said ,"go for it"! I'm now basically wiped out with all the decisions. I am really on my own with all of these decisions since my DH has abdicated any responsibility ( except for the all important money aspect). He gave me a good budget if it only covered the kitchen but somehow it needs to cover a face lift of most of the house, including ALL of the flooring. I hired a KD for 5 hours as a sounding board for my vision of my kitchen. she gave me a few sketches with no dimensions. Beyond that, she's been available by text.... Hoping we'll be finished with the kitchen next week. My DH has been awesome and uncomplaining throughout. I guess I am one lucky girl. It's been sort of a dream to finally try out all of these ideas floating around in my head for the past 12 years in a kitchen I never liked. Hope it turns out . Give up? Okay.... This is the seed cluster that appears at the end of a tall stalk of grass. When you're not looking through a macro lens it appears stiff and brush-like--like a back scrubber, Jasdip. :-) I'm not sure I described it all that well, so perhaps when the lawn dries off I'll go out and see if I can photograph one from a normal distance.
