Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I'll be enjoying my last year as a "40 Something" in 2008.

I know I've been MIA for much of 2007. It's been an eventful year for us and cooking has not been priority. I've checked in occasionally and posted here and there. I hope next year to have more time, meet all the new faces and jump back into a swap.

A couple things we've been dealing with:

Hubby lost his job late 2006 and it's been a struggle finding him a new one. After 9 months working at a temp agency, he ended up going back to work for his old company and is traveling heavily. We have our eyes open for something else and have a couple of possibilities. His issue with his job before was the heavy international travel. Being an only child with elderly parents, he just could not commit to being out of the country 10 months out of the year. His company agreed to keep him in the "Northern Hemisphere" if he would come back to work. So far he's only had to travel a two to three hour radius from home, which is better, but still he's gone a lot.

We've also had some issues with our teenage daughter. She's always been a strong-willed child and had trouble managing strong emotions. Now that she's 15, her moods and emotions can change at any moment. We've been to family therapy trying to figure out how to best deal with these moods. It's helped DH and I, but DD has refused to go back. She thinks therapist are "idiots". So we take it a day at a time. She's a great kid, happy and bubbly most of the time but when something emotional happens she can go off the deep end. Like last week, she had her hair cut and hated it. It was a pretty drastic change from her old hairstyle and at school, was made the brunt of many jokes. This seemingly small thing mushroomed into a hugely stressful week, for her and I. Thank goodness the kids at school have moved onto something else, and she's back to her normal happy self. After everything I've read, I know that "this too shall pass", she should emerge from these teen years a strong confident woman and hopefully, her strong-willed personality will serve her well. I'm patiently waiting.

Again, thanks for remembering me today. Hubby came in from out of town last night, has today off and then will be gone Saturday and Sunday. We plan on spending the day doing last minute shopping. Tonight we're meeting some family at a new Tapas / Martini bar for dinner. Should be fun.

Sorry for the long post. You guys have been in my thoughts. I know I've missed a lot of what's been going on. I've seen some of the heartaches and read some of the happy news. I hope to see more of you in 2008. It's going to be a good year.

In the meantime, I hope all my Cooking Forum friends have a safe and wonderful holiday!

Wishing you a very Happy Birthday Doris! Have a wonderful day with your family and a happy and healthy coming year.

Doris, you will always hold the special distinction for me as being one of my first kitchen renovation forum friends. I feel for what you've been dealing with, and hope the new year brings you family peace, the right job for your husband, and the gift of more time together.

Happy Holidays to your and your family, and a special Happy Birthday to you!

It's a party the moment Luigi and his sidekick, Kermit, sing.

Happy Birthday Wishes to you Doris!

Sol

Happy Birthday, Doris, I think of you every time I see that brown cookie jar on my counter or have some of your peach/hot pepper jam for breakfast.

I'm sorry about the stressful year, I'm wishing you lots of good things for 2008, but mostly peace and quiet!

Annie
