Thanks for the info on geranium sporting. I thus christen this geranium "peppermint deeprootsii". Re: the CA buckeye - on bike rides in the foothills, I noticed the pods (good word for them) by the side of the road in great profusion. I believe they show up in November or December typically, that time of year more or less. Since they sprout where they land (if they don't dry out too much or get eaten by squirrels or run over by car tires) I initially tried to mimic those conditions by just placing a pod in a pot of soil. This was not successful. What I discovered is you need to find pods that are putting out this white tap root which they will typically do most often if they are near a creek or rivulet by the side of the road and the weather is wet or has been very wet recently. The white tap root comes out as the pod cracks open and the tap root bends and seeks soil. You can take a little soil with the pod if the tap root is already anchored. Just gather these pods up and set them individually in your pot of soil and protect them from squirrel depredations for the first year as squirrels see the pod and will grab it if they can, and the success rate is very high. After the first year or 2 the pod degrades and you get a good trunk and the squirrels will then leave these plants alone. I currently have 5 little trees. The key is: White tap root emerging from pod = easy as pie.

I hope you do give your chance Encounter seeding another chance :) Maybe it will be better in more sun. Of course, the color may not be so pretty, but who knows. I am the one who has such a hard time getting rid of seedlings though. I've been going through mine, have several reds, various shades & sizes, & am having such a hard time whittling them down.

More great looking daylilies today.I love that SAM ABEL.Its really a beauty.Also AUGUST SUNSET is a beauty and my favorite, too.LAST MAN STANDING is a beauty too,and I love that one also.and ORANGES FOR CHRISTMAS is very pretty and bright. I just love them Zinnia's you have blooming.I wish I would have thought about planting some sooner then I did,so I would have alot more of them.I have a few thats tall like yours with the big flowers,and I been cutting a few along and bringing them inside to look at them.The last ones I cut and brought in lasted 2 weeks before they faded,and stayed pretty, so they are nice for Bouquets in the house, too.Then I have a few short Zinnina's too, with the big flowers.I noticed yesterday that I have a dozen or so little ones that has sprouted.I guess from the old flowers that fell off just dropped seeds, tooI was happy to see little ones growing, so maybe they will flower, too, before cold weather comes.I just love your last picture with all the zinnia's blooming so pretty.now, lets see the Portulaca's.. and the poppies, too.:)Do you still have any Trumpet lilies blooming? Even though there are not as many as before, they are still pretty and brighten my day. Apache War Dance is a real standout because of the color. All of them are nice to look at, and I can see the definite difference in the color of Amber Finale and Amor Ultima. We had a late scape come up on a Buttered Popcorn proliferation. It just bloomed out yesteday. There were 16 flowers total which was a big surprise. We have just now found a new rebloom scape on Miss Amelia. Never know what is going to happen with the daylilies.
