Okay, I went ahead and planted the pothos (from above pic Mon, Oct 29, 12 at 16:58) in a little 2 inch pot. It looks a little goofy, but I think/ hope that the white root thing is sufficient and shows that it's ready for soil. I'm amazed that this first green pothos showed the white root thing within only 10 days (but also curious why the 2nd cutting, in the same jar of water, hasn't showed any change at all). I'm not just tracking how long it takes for my 5 pothos "specimens" to root, but I also hope to track their long-term success after rooting in either soil or water initially. I'm trying to be as scientific and careful about documenting this process as I can.

I suppose that to Southerners, I'd be considered a fancy Northerner. That said, I think they are a good family. Alana is surrounded by love. Their manners may not be white-glove perfect and their eating habits need work; but all-in-all I don't see a problem. June is a product of her education, or lack thereof, and her environment. They certainly could use the help of a nutritionist. That would go far in helping with the weight issues. Only a child as secure as those girls are, knowing they are loved and supported, could be as open and outspoken as they are. I do think the editing leaves something to be desired. June had her oldest when she was 15. Her home is clean. The grandmother's home is clean. She understands how difficult it is to be a teen mom. She also understands that education is important. If money were her sole motivation, she would have accepted the offer from Entertainment Tonight to fly to CA and have Alana interviewed. She said school came first and she refused. I think it's a good insight into how people rise above their environments and do the best they can within their limitations. They've got Alana believing she can be Miss America one day and they're willing to go along with it as far as Alana wants and they are all willing to put the work in to give her the opportunity. There were plenty of kids that my two went to school with that I wouldn't allow them to play with or bring home with them. None of June's girls would be on that list.

What are they thinking putting these shows on the air anyway? Ratings and that is all they care about, It is the same everywhere, not much different from when we were kids, EXCEPT most of us were taught morals, manners and respect for EVERYONE. Kids today learn from what they see and I am afraid it won't get better, just worse. If anyone likes home reno shows and had ever watched Love it or List it you can see one very good example. Those people are plain nasty and outright ignorant. Who died and made them royalty? I loved to see just what could be done with some of the homes but I can not even stand to see the start of the show come on anymore..the homeowners don't appreciate what is being done they have to act like ...don't get me started ..it would be embarrassing to even have a next door neighbor like that. I realize it is only a reality show..as are most that are on now because that is what makes the ratings. All the talk about this child, that is fat as stated by some posters is just sad. That child (if they are her parents) didn't or should I say doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell-o of being any different than she is. Hopefully someone will step into her life and steer her in the right direction. But there is a chance of someone in your own families that may come along and be "fat" either from a medical condition or the bad choices that their parents make when raising him or her. What do we do? Reject all these kids and ridicule them, what a boost to their self esteem, because of course we are perfect to begin with? I think not, mirrors show the outsides not what you are inside and we all have faults. To anyone that has never had to deal with a weight problem they will never know what nasty comments and and jeers can do to a person. Then again, start watching all the bullying that has lead to teen suicides all it took was a comment. One that made them feel so bad about themselves that they didn't know how to cope at that young age so the problems kept getting bigger and bigger with the bullies taunting and name calling ...only to escalate to higher degrees of torture. Name calling is just what I did in my post by calling those people nasty and ignorant. In my opinion they were degrading to others but in Honey Boo's case she just doesn't know any better, in social skills nor in her actions and being the youngest in the family probably didn't help matters any.

Update! I gave up on them and trimmed them all back so that I could keep them alive, except two plants that I gave to our secretary at the shop. She put them in a very sunny window in her office. I don't have a sunny window at home so all of my light has to be artificial. They have ripening tomatoes on them now and I am pretty sure that they are black cherry plants because of the color and size of the fruit. They are very tall and spindly but have fruit! She will have fresh toms before anyone! :) I planted the ones that I trimmed back in an old bed over a week ago and they are growing fast! They had a lot of roots and they will probably be my first toms too. I'm not too crazy about the taste of black cherry, but since they are early I'm sure they will be better than store bought, I can accept that!
