Joann, we are snowbirds. this is our fourth season here. We love it here, if the family wasn't 1,500 miles away, we'd probably move here full-time!

This one was taken in Wheeler, Oregon a few years ago. People were pulling over to take this picture. One kid took a picture of it reflected on the side of his freshly washed car. R. mucronatum var mucronatum "Winter Sunset" is an evergreen azalea. Can't find a source for it. "Olive" (moupinense x dauricum) 4-5 ft., -15F, VE, 3/3, Lepidote. Flower orchid pink, darker spots scattered over the base of the upper lobe; blossoms held singly or in twos. Upright, and vigorous plant. One of the first to bloom. Stirling Maxwell. A.M. 1942. Tom, my purple martin house is an old "Heath" house and definitely not up to current standards. It came from my Dad, who purchased several insertable layers. At the time, it was sold by Sears and you could buy and add as many "stories" as you wanted. When he replace it with all gourds, he put the pole and Heath house up in my yard. I think you can still get the Heath house but it is not recommended/sanctioned by Purple Martin advocates. The link below tells the story of my pole and how it works. (There are two "pages" to the post.) Again - this set up - all my Dad. He had the idea, got the parts and put it all together. Also again, he came up with this way before the internet and current standards of daily nest inspections, etc. You will fall in love with them if you get the Purple Martin house! Every Feb/March, you will watch the skies, waiting for YOUR birds to return. Yes, they are migratory birds and the exact same birds will return to your house once you have a colony established. Glad to hear from you. Nice and warm sunset, I am sure you really miss all this white stuff. Sun is out and white stuff is melting, but may have more next week. Be glad to share with you.

It seems to speed up the shutter, which makes it more dramatic.

I went to school in Deland and this sort of makes me homesick....I have spent many wonderful hours in the National Forest....in fact, a LOT of years ago, I went to 4-H and Girl Scout camps there.

Jaybird, my parents lived in Deland for 30 years. Did you go to Stetson? Beautiful town. My parents have been gone since the mid-90s, and I haven't been there since 1996. I miss it. I've kept in touch with their neighbors, but only one is left now.

Joan, I'll have to check into that setting, which my camera doesn't have. It doesn't appear to open your aperture, or you wouldn't have the crisp focus that you have. It probably allows for less light, more drama. Beautiful!

I lived on the Pacific Coast for a number of years. I loved to sit on the beach until the sun sat. Just gorgeous over water.

When I went to Destin, Florida I sat on the beach waiting for the sun to set. LOL! I forgot it sets in the West, behind a high rise. How stupid am I.
