organizing lower drawers
Comments (9)I like rollouts for pantry items. A lot of people have a narrow spice/oil pull out for all the little narrow bottles. I have a big one, where all the flavored oils and the vinegars go, as well as the spices and herbs. I keep the things I use all the time at the stove in a small upper, including saute oil, wine and a few spice blends. The big bottles of oil, sauces, etc., go in the pantry or fridge. The pantry has ROTS (roll out tray shelves), some of which are one can high, some which are bottle height. You can get drawer dividers at places like BB&B, the hardware store, lumber yard, organizer and kitchen stores, etc., or you can make them custom. Online, you can get anything at Amazon, plus places like Lee Valley Tools, Haefele, etc. You can also use baskets, trays, risers, and other things that you might put in a cupboard in a drawer. Also, for things that are too stacked, like cans in a deep drawer, or lids in a pot drawer that's several inches deeper than the pots, you can have ROTS inside of drawers. The drawer front is attached to a shallow sided bottom drawer, and the ROTS are mounted behind the drawer front. You can retrofit high sided drawers by notching out the sides....See MoreReady to order cabinets --please critique my layout
Comments (2)Thanks so much Buehl. It seems no matter how much I read GW, it's easy to forget key concepts - - When I saw your post I thought OMG, I forgot to focus on drawers! Your drawers are amazing. I'm feeling somewhat limited given that there is trash P/O, mixer lift and a plate divider drawer and 2 roll out cabs that are taking up space. Maybe I should sacrifice a RO. The DW location has been giving me heartburn, b/c if I move it to the other site, then the plate divider drawer would have to move closer to the range work zone, and farther from the eating area. I don't a better location for the plate divider drawer - any further thoughts you might have on that would be wonderful I see from your photos you have cookie sheets/oven pans stored vertically in cabs with dividers above your wall oven --I was thinking I could do that and eliminate the tray divider cab to the right of the prep sink - but thought the location might be too high. Are there any issues with that location? What do you think of adding bottom drawers beneath each pantry door on either side of the wall oven? Currently, each proposed pantry cab would have 4 RO drawers on the bottom, and then shelving to the top -- do you think that drawers beneath pantry doors would look odd? Here's another look at the layout --slightly less blurry. My cab guy does things by hand --I wish it was a nice clean computer drawn image to share! Thanks again!...See MorePantry cabinets: pull-out drawers or shelves?
Comments (31)You can create this look by installing a 15" 3 drawer base on the bottom and then a 15" deep upper cabinet that is tall (depends on the height of your cabinetry) that sits right on top. We are planning something like this (see computer rendering). Someone on Houzz in an old thread suggested you can add a nice detail by installing in a thick horizontal board over the lowers with a nice edge detail and the uppers sit on top. It is a timeless look, IMO...See MoreOther Items of Interest
