I feel your pain, my total loss house fire was a year ago and not even a rough inspection yet. Have also experienced weeks with no workers. I can't even find the words to describe how I am feeling. Am not a decorator - but want to try to help you. Some ideas: 1. Have you considered putting some glass (maybe semi-opaque/fog instead of clear), maybe with interior lighting, in some cabinets to lighten them up? 2. Can you paint/change one or more cabinets to a lighter color? Mixing cabinet colors seems to be very instyle. 3. Can you change the backsplash? That may be the easiest option to lighten things up. 4. If you have not already, spend time on Houzz looking at kitchen pictures for ideas. 5. Browse kitchen showrooms to find a style you like. Then hire their KD for a consultation. 6. The attached pic from Houzz has dark cabinets & countertops and medium floors and is one of my favorite kitchens. I don't think you have to go with a light floor, that you won't like. No sectional at all you do not have the space for the one you are talking about. A sofa and 2 chairs is a much better option and please no chaise if you insist on a sectional. If you post pics in a comment and wait until they are no longer grayed then submit.

Has anyone successfully used ozone to get rid of odor after a fire? We are currently not living in the home and our insurance company is pushing us to do it to get rid of the strong odors. I’m hesitant very because it seems like it causes other Issues.

You have a psuedo-dutch colonial. But it looks like the way it was constructed is as if there is a plumb vertical exterior wall which is what the roof bears on, and this upstairs vertical wall is in-line with the 1st floor wall (at least in back, probably in front but can't tell with the porch). Then the psuedo-look "slanted" roof was added on outside of this vertical bearing wall. If so, that would lend well to just removing this psuedo- shingled "slant" wall to expose the plumb vertical wall. However, it would be a lot of work and money, as you have to then sheathe the exposed wall, extend a soffit of some sort, and in front probably deal with a porch roof that may fall short of this wall. It would be out-of-pocket, not insurance money. You also have a nice E30.
