ftm...the area where the fence is backs up to a neighbor who has evergreen trees and a London Plane tree planted very close to the lot line. So although the fence gets sun, the ground along it and for quite a distance out is full of tree roots. That is why I decided I could plant the VC vine and it could compete with the roots in one small area and travel the distance over the 50ft of bare stockade fence with little trouble. I had thought of trying euonomous fortunei at the base of the fence since it could compete with the roots and allow it to climb it, but read that was pretty much an invasive in natural areas. At least the VC vine is native. I don't know much about firethorn. I do like the look of it especially in the fall, so I will look into it. Thanks.

The vines are not massive and unruly since they are in heavy shade for 45 years or longer. How can the vines not be massive and unruly if they are over 45 years old? I am severely allergic to Carolina jasmine, even though I love the flowers and their fragrance. Not only am I allergic to the flowers, but I am also allergic to the mold that grows on the dead parts of the vines - I cannot go anywhere near those vines without a horrible attack of hay fever. You could easily be wrong about who the inconsiderate party is. If you had a tangerine tree overhanging into my yard, that would be a different story. I used to get tangerines from my neighbors in Venice, and they would get figs from my tree that shaded part of their patio. It's a good thing they liked figs, however, as they can be very messy. I think you are best growing vines on a trellis that is placed in front of your wall, so that the vines do not grow over it. I consider Carolina jasmine a pest, no matter how much I want to love it.

Thanks Circuspeanut! That is great! I think we are installing the tiles long side vertically. As far as our ends go, there are bullnose pieces available, so we will make straight line finishes. I'm glad to see this because I did think about doing something like they did above the door, but when I saw it in the photo, I thought that it wasn't finished. I did like seeing them go to the ceiling in this photo, but then again, their cabinets go all the way up. We are going to end ours at the bottom of the crown, aka the top of the cabinet. If the bullnose pieces hadn't all broken when they were loading the skid, I might have my tile up by today! We are postponed now (due to schedules) until 3/26 weekend. Thanks for this post.

Avoiding the main stream consensus and suggest that you could have more if you wanted too. Your planter space inst really an issue, it's the cuc's crawling space, growing more then the optimal amount (whichever number that happens to be for you) wont decrease yield and can potentially increase yield seeing as they can sprawl for it. In other words, 2 plants per square foot could yield the same as 4 plants, however there's the crawling factor. In my case, I have to plant cucs heavier then most people because the ground cover they put out early is far superior in water retention for me, which is a crucial point to my cucs success. I also never plant in hills, which goes against the grain and yet it's another factor that greatly effects yields for me. When it doubt, test it out. That's how you learn. What one person thinks is optimal isn't necessary optimal for the next person because there's too many different variables involved.
