The high N recommendation comes from recent research that shows that if you fertilize after the top growth has stopped, but while the grass is still green, it stores energy in its roots, helping it to survive the winter and grow early in the spring. I've got a lawn that is mostly native grass now, so I don't fertilize, but when I was doing the late fall fertilizing, my lawn would stay green all winter, while the rest of the neighborhood was brown. I should probably point out that this advice is for cool season lawns.

We had a great year this year when it came to oaks too. They were germinating I mean everywhere never seen so many. Do ya think it is due to mother natures oak wilt? We need new oaks to replace the dead ones. We had to take down a lot of trees this year. What a shame. Ma nature can be so mean...Oh the pansy bloomed today. It was the one I was growing in the garden a seed must of flown over to the cup. I will plant it now. They do not do well in the gh. Too many bug problems with them last year. Wow - This is the year for Lone Grove to remember for bad weather, first a tornado, and now a blizzard. Most of my family are self employed so they have some control over that, but several of them have cattle so that part can't wait. We are still above freezing temps and have had high winds most of the day, but right now it is VERY still, almost too still. We are not big gift buyers and mostly just send checks to the grandkids so that was done earlier. I was surprised last week when I heard a vehicle in my yard. I looked at the kitchen window and my husband and son were backing into the yard with a new front load washer and dryer. I guess my husband had given up on me because I hadn't replaced my squecking washer. He and my son had gone shopping and bought me a new set. They wanted it higher than the pedestals that you can buy for them (for $200 each) and so my son and DIL built a base for them so that I don't even have to bend over to use either of them. It is great. And yes, I am OK with a practical gift because most anything else would be a waste of money for something I wouldn't use. I guess my husband felt a little guilty that it was a "work" gift, so he told me I could go buy him a new microwave. LOL Ours went out the day after Thanksgiving and I have been using the one from the bunkhouse and it is less than adequate for everyday use. I am sure that I can make it through the holiday season because I am not going out today to buy one. I know that they are glad they bought early and got all of the installation done while the weather was nice. My daughter called from Tuttle this morning and said they were getting pounded. It started with sleet and snow at 5 AM and from the looks of the weather map, it is still snowing heavily there. Talk about a white Christmas. No snow here yet.

OP here. colleen, apologies if my words were confusing. I don't believe anyone thinks those who fell from the building did not do so on purpose. Certainly they knew it was just a faster way to escape the inevitable. But most newspapers decided to avoid the word 'jumpers' in an attempt to be more sensitive. to the families of those who made that decision. The falling man's identity was originally thought to be the loved one of a family who did not appreciate the speculation. They could not reconcile his choice with their religion's view on that subject. So they were elated when other photos showed what appeared to be an orange T-shirt, under the man's white shirt. The family said he didn't own an orange T-shirt and they were greatly relieved that the stigma felt, due to their religion, was now lifted. They felt more at peace, not knowing any precise details of their loved one's death. However the family of another man (who is now thought to be the correct identity in the photo) was contacted to discuss the matter. They agreed there's a strong possibility it is their loved one, and were not offended by the photo, even if his identity is ever confirmed. It was not after all, a gory photo of a pulverized body on the ground, but an image that will be an emotion evoking reminder, of the reality some faced that day. As well, a man in the documentary, noticed a female he believes to be his wife, (in other photos) falling from the same building. He said nothing could cause him greater pain than her death itself. But believing that she chose that route gave him peace, knowing she had access to another option and freely carried out her choice not to stay in the inferno. I myself wrote "In general, I don't see why close up pics of the dying or deceased are necessary for public viewing. Maybe a more distant photo to document the numbers, but identifying photos are only needed for investigations, IMHO." I do believe occurrences that will become historical events, (both joyous and tragic) should be photographed. But I'll specify that I consider images to establish the passing of an assassinated political leader, war enemy etc. different than photos not taken to provide proof of identity. I think many news photos could be less precise, in respect for family members, or at least require permission before publishing.
