A question

I guess this is a somewhat different subject but it has to do with photography. If anyone knows Kim Komando's site, she has a scanner that says it can convert negatives. But when I read about it it seems to mean 35 mm negatives, of which we have many. But I need one that converts film negatives and I'm not sure her scanner will do that. We have a scanner but I have no idea where the software or hardware for it is. Maybe I could find somewhere to replace it. But Kim Komando's sounds so easy to work with. Does anyone have any ideas about it? Thanks.

Hi Gmom-

thought this link would have a little info. Of course theres a ton of it on internet. I once looked for something that would digitize my negatives, but decided 'another time for that'...(basically got overwhelmed with too much info)

Some of the older HP flat bed scanners were capable of scanning both black/white and color negatives. It mostly depends on if the capability is built into the software. I have one that does a credible job on old B/W negatives of any size that will fit on the bed. It does a fair job on 35 mm color negatives, and a good job on larger color negatives. There are limitations for 35mm size negatives although the scanner did come with frames for holding such items. The limitation is mostly finess of detail. This particular scanner is limited to 600 dots per inch with default at 200 dots per inch. Dedicated 35 mm scanners may default to smaller detail and that may be necessary for small negatives.

You can use a digital camera to scan positive images! Its a kluge, but it works. Holders are available for Canon and Nikon digital cameras for copying positive 35 mm images. A light source is included. (An even spread of light across the image is critical, and the color of the light is critical also.) A friend of mine spent part of his early career as a fashion photographer. He had been sent to many exotic locations and had a large collection photos of those locations. He used a holder and his Nikon to convert 3000 images to digital files.

Hi, welcome to worm farming. I've been doing it for about a year now. Questions are good, and lead to learning more. Hope we can help out. 1. They like it best at 70, but thats not to say you can't keep them in a place that is hotter or colder. I have a bin outside, were it is 100+ during the summer and as low as 0 during the winter, and it is very active. 2. Thats a big bin. How many worms do you have? I would worry about how much air they get if you have the doors on. You would want it covered, but the fridge is made to hold air in, so if you keep the lid on, give it plenty of holes for fresh air flow. 3. Grass clippings are fine, but they can heat up. I would use in moderation. I will bag mine up every now and then, and use in my regular compost pile. Leaves, newspaper, veggie scraps make up most of my worms food and bedding. 4. As stated with the grass clippings, they heat up, so your worms could be escaping the heat. when things cool off they may find their way back. Don't let any mistakes now make you think twice about what you are trying to do. This is a great thing to do, you'll make mistakes and learn from them. Once you get it down, it is easy. You just have to learn what works best for you.

MUA should really be provided mechanically, not through “drafty” walls, crawl spaces or attics. The hood you are purchasing should provide you with the volume of MUA that is required to run the system efficiently, assuming it is correctly sized with your gas range. Your log stove should have its own MUA system, but if you are relying on the hood system, it needs to be sized to accommodate both the log stove AND your gas range. The International Building Code for Residential Construction should provide all of the details you need (in the mechanical code) for this system - even if your local jurisdiction or contractors are not familiar with it.

Mine are from ReSound and cost $6k a year ago. They were fitted by an audiologist with a Masters degree at my ENT’s office. She is able to make adjustments and send them to my hearing aids over the internet. Mine are controlled through my iPhone. There is a button on mine where I can control volume, but I’ve never learned to use it, because it is so easily done from my phone. Mine are pretty much invisible. The thing behind my ear was ordered to match my hair color. the wire that goes from it to the part in my ear is very fine. The audiologist taught me where to put it so that it blends in with my ear. I can wear my hair behind my ears without the hearing aid showing. I agree with AD, your mother needs to be seen by an ENT. I blame my hearing loss on jet engines from my days as a flight attendant and from playing music too loudly. The audiologist said my hearing loss is barely at the level for hearing aids. I bought them mainly to appease DD. I say she talks too fast and does not enunciate clearly. She said I needed hearing aids.
