If you want to stay with the victorian theme, how about parlor tables? Come in all different sizes and woods - the fact that they are "open" in the top would be nice I think, something solid with drawers might seem too heavy with the other furniture, since it's so big.

I used two of those in my last house in a guest toom. I don't have a guest room in my current house so I am using one as my nightstand in the MB. I LOVE it. :)

I think you're absolutely right about 'blocky' tables with lots of drawers.

They are, if you google image search parlor table, lots come up. The marble top would tie in with the dresser. I've seen quite a few while out antiquing. Of the ones you posted, I like the round ones, I think that would be nice to break up the square headboard. But the others would work, too. :-)

The bed and dresser were about $300 each on Craigslist, and I'm trying to stay frugal.

I think I paid about $100 each for mine at an antique auction house.

I've def. seen them for less...but it's nice to know burled ones are out there. There are several on Ebay (too expensive.) I'm looking for a couple in bad condition that I can whitewash and use as end tables in my beach house.

My taste is becoming more eclectic as time goes on. If I had your beautiful bed and dresser I'd look for simple bamboo-type tables that have more or less the same color as your furniture but with glass tops. Your pieces have a very weighty look and the side tables would ameliorate that while still blending in color-wise, and the glass would give some sparkle and lightness to the room.

I suspect that if you keeplooking on CL or at local auctions, you can pick up some very inexpensively. Resale or thrift shops are another place to look. (come to think of it, you obviously already know that!) They wouldn't need to be identical, just similar in feel. I also like Ingrid's idea. It sort of depends on how large your room is. If you aren't looking at some deadline for getting your room together, I imagine you can find some at a great price - especially if you can retouch the finish.

I just love the furniture you have going so far! It tempts me to try to convince DH into parting with his grandmother's very plain bed and look for a beauty like yours.

And the room is moderate size -- 11'5" x 13'6", with only one good spot for the bed, which is on the 11'5" wall.

So far, nothing even halfway decent on Craigslist in the way of small tables.
I'll try consignment, antique and thrift stores, but I haven't had much luck with quality in the thrift or consignment stores, and with pricing in the antique stores...
Could be with the poor economy, that I'll have more negotiating room.

Is that what it means here? And no one likes the campaign table?
If so - PLEASE say so! (Or else I might end up with it as it's the only thing I've seen that's affordable.)

I'm not extremely talented at mixing furniture (my bedroom set is very matchy-matchy) so take this for what it's worth, but I don't think the campaign table is a good choice for a night stand. I like it very much, but the finish (is it a silver or pewter metal?) seems a little cold for the warm wood of your furniture pieces and it also seems a bit on the smaller side. It's hard to tell the finish and dimensions from just the photo, though, so I may be way off base.

I meant to add that I love your antique bed and dresser. Your guest suite will look fabulous when you're done! I'd love to have the extra room for a large guest bed.

I really like the campaign tables. And I think that having something with that lighter look would complement the bed nicely. But I also think a warmer colored version would be better. I've recently seen that style of table in a golden finish, and on sale/clearance--maybe pier 1 imports?

I do like that campaign table but worry if it isn't going to look skimpy next to the headboard.

Have you thought about mixing it.....maybe a writing desk on one side & a skirted table for the other.....unifying the look with matching lamps? You could pull up a pretty ladies chair or stool for the desk....maybe needlepoint.

Althou, I love the way Boopadoo's table look also.

Yes, it was Pier 1. Just found them (they were referenced in a blog). It's bigger than the one you posted (30" x 19" x 26"h), but here's a link; this is the 'console' table, the other size is an oval coffee table so probably is too short for your space.

And Craigslist has also been a washout. Two nice ones, but asking way too much for them. A few borderline - but I think I can do better. And tons of GARBAGE!
