Oh, I forgot to mention that orig owner said tree is 10 yrs old,,don't know variety,,also had what I interpreted as peach curl that didn't do anything about since didn't know what it was,,bore good fruit, but not every year. 1/Thinking that planting second tree for "insurance" is good idea. DO YOU THINK RAINTREE NURSERY IS GOOD FOR BAREROOT TREES? Reading lots of posts last night. 2/Can I do any preventative things to stop any peach borer or that gel moth from every happening? 3/Regarding the little tree that maybe rootstock...can I find out by digging between the 2 trees since only 3 ft apart, to see if any root links them? Trying to see ASAP if that baby tree should be pulled out since it is multi-trunked etc. Could I put new tree in that hole (or big tree hole if doesn't pan out) while waiting the 2-3 yrs after serious pruning to see if it will bear any decent fruit? That way by the time I know I can already have another on the way. Is it bad to replant a 2-3 yr old nectarine/peach (newbie tree) should this main one fizzle out? Just thinking outloud and know you guys are much better at this in real life than anything I could read from previous posts or in books. Thanks again, Nicole

I'd buy a new tree and cut that one out of there. It looks huge. You'd need to prune it way back and then dig it when dormant. That trees is going to have a good sized rootball. If you keep it, it needs to be chopped back hard...unless you want to pick peaches from the top of your roof :) Peaches fruit on 1 year wood, so all that old wood will not be production, so the tree will grow new wood (this years growth) to produce peaches next year...just keeps getting taller and wider...longer and longer branches.

Like so many others have said, this article is a propaganda piece. It's intent and design was to cast doubt on the credibility of gov't and bash "big gov't". I'm surprised so many folks take the bait and get all riled up. Fox News makes a living on this very tactic. They don't let truth or facts get in the way, just spin the story to further their political objectives. Crap like this is why this stuff is/was still being used 30 years after 26 countries and the USA agreed to it's phase out. I wholeheartidly agree with Joppa...guys like this need also to be phased out. Truth is, this guy has an old played out orchard, his kids aren't interested in furthering. Oppurtunity for a political spin piece from the deep south largely anti-gov't, anti-enviroment crowd. Drew51...You want proof? Go look it up and study it. I am sure you will doubt the science of all 27 nations anyway. Why is it that you feel you need to have it proven to you as an individual. Should the US gov't send a special envoy to your house armed with data/video/slideshows and other evidence to prove it to you? Maybe you require a representative from all 27 nations to do that. Do you have a degree in enviromental science and chemistry necessary to refute their data? Probably not.

I now re read my original post. it was supposed to be "(a hybrid or) some sort of mutant" a hybrid is obviously the more likely option. either way, this pepper is freaking delicious. like, holy crap it tastes good. I am looking forward to stabilizing it, and getting lots more really delicious pods.
