pink porterweed??

Hi ctnchpr, As of this morning "little boss" is still on the stick...;) But I must admit I still have my doubts. I don't think we have any adult males left around here now, and this one certainly may not be the only hummer to perch there. We've still got at least 6 chasing each other about, and as fast as they move I'm usually unable to tell them apart. Anyway this looks like the same one to me: And, although this one seems to sit there longest, and bristles and gestures the most... I've seen others actually sit at the feeder and drink less than two feet away during his (or her?) displays. Like this one (who's maybe even more likely a male??): I just know they're a lot of fun to watch. :) Kenn

I got a chance yesterday to try a few more of these. It was brighter outside and I brought in some lamps with those energy bulbs. This allowed me to lower the f/ to f/14 - f/22. I am also including a photo of the feathers. They are range 10 - 24" long and about 2-4" wide at their widest. My intent was to get a shot of the individual strands and their colours/make up. I think this second try better depicts that. So what I have learned from this is when shooting extreme close up you do need extra lighting and to be able to compensate for it. Another interesting thing is that trying to shoot the blue side of the feathers was really difficult. The blue continued to have that strong razor thin line of DOF. Anyway...here are a few of the second try. Thanks again for all the input :)
