I collected it as a cutting about 3-4 years ago. The mother plant is growing at a former Birmingham High School building. The building is no longer used as a school. I think it has been closed for a long time. The mother plant is growing up out of a privet bush, so it is difficult to judge its mature shape. But it is about 5ft tall. My plant grows in a 'v' shape and is about 4 ft tall. It has matte leaves in sets of 5 and occasionally 3. The foliage is matte green with wrinkles, but not like a rugosa. Very few thorns, small. New growth is green with just a very light orange cast. Intense Damask fragrance. Once bloomer, or at least so far. I have only observed the mother plant in the spring.That is about all I know. I know very little about once bloomers.

Someone just told me this is a Frosted Pink from the insignis family. I got mine in trade a few years ago and that is what she called it. I guess that is how plants get misnamed. I will change the name on mine from now on. I do love more the shape of this pink one over the peach one I have, but the peach has the nicer scent.

At least for this year, the height is fine. Please Say Yes is the only other Carpenter that reaches its described height. So many Carpenters (Worth It All, Forever Redeemed, Encore of Beauty, Michigan Magic, Treasure of the Southwest, just off the top of my head) are all blooming 12-inches off the ground. If this is a tendency of Carpenter intros, those daylilies will have to go. Soon. Mantis, Orange Velvet just started blooming. This is the time it regularly blooms here. Thanks for the compliment about the garden setting. The stone ornament you're seeing in the photo of SSB is an antique chimney pot -- I try to throw all the spent blooms in there when I deadhead. The photo of Orange Velvet shows a bit of the color in the background, which is what most of my garden looks like right now -- peak bloom.
