Jeri, Oops, I didn't think about he Dr. Huey being virused. If I get a Dutchesse de Brabant, I'll get an own-root one. As far as the two BB's that I've already gotten, I can put them in an area where they can look pretty and if they're virused they'll go into the trash.

John, nice to hear from you. It's been a while since I've seen you post. I would prefer to use old roses as much as possible, but I'm not a stickler for it. Old-fashioned modern roses are fine as well. I have in the past grown a number of the Romantica roses only to find them glaringly modern looking when placed with genuine old roses. Pierre de Ronsard is the exception, and I think it was added to the Romantica collection after the fact. I do like your suggestion of Marechal Niel. I have heard that it sometimes lacks vigor on its own roots. Did you find the Chamblee's clone to have that problem? HoovB, I'd love to add Gloire de Dijon, if one can be found that is vigorous and healthy. Do you have a particular source to recommend? Aimee and I both want to know. Pamela, several of your suggestions sound appealing, especially Apricot Glow and Jacotte. I wonder if someone from a PM-prone area could post their experiences with these two. Yes, I am tempted! Kstrong, I used to grow Royal Sunset, but while it had good resistance, here it lacked the vigor I want. Masha, I'll take a look at Collette. I don't know that I've ever seen it grown. BBoy, that is too bad about Cornelia. It was one I was considering. I'll only be planting two climber/ramblers and a big shrub, already chosen. I want to leave lots of room for paths, as Campanula pointed out to me. The area I'm planting slopes uphill, so I'll get the layering effect easily and the paths should disappear from notice. As a bonus, I have two pomegranate bushes in that area, and their blooms are a wonderful coppery orange. I didn't plan it that way, but they ought to look great there. There is also a ham radio tower, but that's another story. I've gardened around it so long that I have trouble imagining having a garden without a tower or two. I've come to think of it as sculpture. I know that is how Tom regards it! Rosefolly

On to the Qs and Queens. I'm starting to catch up. Those Quadra blooms are spectacular, Marina. I didn't know this rose could be so gorgeous. I love Queen of Hearts' unique coloring, another new one to me. And Queen of Sweden with the campanula makes me want to grow bellflowers again. Quietness is just luscious. I don't know how I'll find room for all these roses now on my wish list. More quintessential queenliness (sorry) with the photo of your lush Queen of Sweden, Kate. I'm impressed with your petal packed Queen of Hearts Fairy Tale, Tammy. Is this a different rose from Marina's Q of Hearts? Seil, more queenliness with your beauties. What a sweet rose Quietness is, so perfectly named. And finally, another Queen of Hearts with still another look, Beth. Must be several roses with this name. All are lovely. Thanks for posting all your queens and other lovelies. This alphabet continues to be so much fun to see--and certainly a learning experience for me about what roses are out there. Diane

Hi Dave, I got rose seeds from you may be 3 years back and I have 6 roses grown from them, one of which is a seedling of Quadra. The other two seedlings of Alexander Mackenzie are amazing. They are so cane hardy here and bloom so well with beautiful pink blooms. They are ramblers /climbers and are doing perfect for me. Some of the photos of the roses I grew from seed are in the link below: I would like to try rooting quadra rose. I don't know what special ways are needed to root these cuttings, but I generally root my cuttings in sand. I would be very happy to receive cuttings from you. I have champlain, william baffin, scarlet meidiland and the cuttings of the roses I grew from seed. Let me know what you would like. Thank you so much, Aparna Here is a link that might be useful: Roses in Amoeba - My Garden
