Please hug your dog tonight
Comments (6)The mania of speed today makes living dangerous especially for pets. Even in past years pets were subject to reckless drivers but all drivers were and are not reckless or uncaring. Several years ago my oldest son, Eric, was playing ball near a new road recently opened. Eric always had our Border Collie, Henry, following him. Some kid hit a fly and being an outfielder Eric's only thought was of catching that ball. Well a car was coming down the new road and Eric was in its immediate path. All of a sudden a black and white blur knocked Eric to the ground at the edge of the road and was killed by the oncoming car. The driver immediately stopped and brought Eric and Henry home. Henry of course was dead. The driver happened to be a Lutheran Minister headed back to NYC. He told us that there was no way he could have stopped in time and that Henry had saved the life of Eric. Years went by and we were living in a city so our son got us an Akita puppy. Kita, the dog, saved me a few times, whether it was intimidation by thugs or falling in the yard. That dog had been with us thirteen years when Arthritis Etc. got the best of her. We had her put away. Those two dogs were special to us and our children. One can never come close to imagining the love and devotion a dog has for the family it lives with(in most instances). Hug my dog tonight(?)YES if we still had one! Comments (10)I'm sending out hugs to those that can't have or give them. We just returned from brunch with both our daughters. My step-son sent me a note through Facebook too! AND I received 3 new rose bushes...I lost three this winter. I am very happy! (Now ready for a wonderful Sunday afternoon NAP!!!) I hope those that have lost our mothers will think of some happy memories on this Mother's Day....See MoreTo Hug or Not to Hug
Comments (11)SD is 9 for the poster who asked. I think with regard to me, it's a loyalty issue with BM, and probably with little sis too since just the other day she informed us that 4yo is only a half-sister. She had never referred to her like that before. It's always just been "my sister". Anyway, 4yo's not too bothered. She's very lovey, and I don't even think she notices if someone's not hugging her back. She just likes to hug...A LOT!! DH just feels hurt by SD's lack of affection toward him sometimes since she has so much for her mother's family. Maybe I'll mention that it's maybe just because he's male because now that someone suggested it, I haven't seen her hug the men in BM's family too much either. My DD has a problem with affection towards men also, but I think that's due to her on again, off again father and not wanting to put herself out there to be hurt. She is getting better though since her father's last off again has lasted for about the last two years. She'll now hug my dad and sometimes, just sometimes, my DH, who she has recently began calling "dad". Thanks to all who replied....See MoreHelp identifying two palms. I have a dog & don't want her to get sick
Comments (9)Hi everyone, you all are so smart with these palms/plants. Thank you for the quick response. I do believe the tall palm is a Queen Palm. Its that sago palm that worries me. My dog is 13...so we thankfully have conquered the "greeting at the door with the entire plant in her mouth" phase. But this sago palm makes me nervous. We're in Central California. I don't understand why landscapers put plants in that are poisonous to pets...I suppose now I need to figure out how to get it removed. Thank you all so very much for the information. At least now I know & can figure out a plan....See Moresephia
