Hi Dirtslinger, I raise full size, but am familar with the little guys. They will be able to plow it just fine. Trick is you're gonna have to start and stay small. The minute it's turned over get 'em off of it or they'll pack it down. I don't think I would mess with electric fence (I just don't like the stuff) If I were doing this I would use (4) 16' X 3' Hog panels - 16' sq. feet is as large as I would go. Then I would get 8 pallets. Put 2 pallets on each corner, wired (remember you have to be able to undo this) together to make a 90` angle. This will be your "fence post". Then wire (I use baling wire) the hog panels to the inside of these making a box. Be sure to put the pallets on the outside of the fence or they will become a tasty treat for your pigs. The dog igloos make a great pbpig house and will provide shade for them. 2 pbpigs will live in this just fine, probably move it every other day? Just have to watch and see. 1 pig will do the job, but they are very social animals & prefer not to be alone. Best of luck to you! Cristi

I guess I will add my "walking the pig" story here. I had a large old sow that frequently would become constipated after farrowing. I would let her out of her farrowing pen twice a day to get a little exercise for her "constitution". She knew where her babies, feed and water were, so she would just hang around the barnyard. One day, a pickup truck pulled up to the barn where I was working. Thinking it was someone looking for directions, I walked up and was surprised to see two very drunk men in the truck with an uncased rifle. I was quite nervous as DH was in the house sleeping and I was alone. The men just sat there staring and did not say a word (very impolite). Then, #8, the Grand Ol Dame" came around the corner and saw the strange truck and men, and charged the truck in the way that only a 450 pound sow with babies to protect, can do--snorting and spitting and running and bucking at about 50 mph straight at the truck. I kinda laughed and told the men "I would not get out of the truck if I were you." They just shook their heads, "No, we aren't going to get out." As it turned out, I just needed to give them directions to where the public game reserve area was. I suppose if they had not been so drunk, they might have realized they could have shot the sow, but luckily, it never crossed their minds.

You would need a large area for them, with a strong fence of course..provide a shelter of some kind, loaded with straw for bedding and warmth in the winter. They need sun and love to lie in it,this is why you will also have to have an area in there that has mud for protecting them from sunburns. (that;s why pigs roll in mud) they also love to root with their nose, digging and pushing things around are a favorite past-time for them! I gave my potbelly smooth rocks in a plastic bin with low sides to play with. also, pigs are extremely clean animals, they won't pee or poo in their houses where they will sleep...so keeping that area clean will be easy for you...I only changed the straw once a week. other than that,if you are keeping them outside all the time(I kept mine in with us like a dog!) then make sure your fencing is strong enough to hold them in,and keep large predators out. Pigs can figure out how to open gates and escape in no time! concrete blocks somewhere in their area would help file down the hoofs making your chore of hoof trimming a little less.I did mine about every 3 months. also, they love a bath...I used a kids wading pool and it worked great...just put concrete blocks for them to get up. good luck with your pigs..I LOVE them and think they need more credit than they recieve from most people. They're HIGHLY intelligent creatures, and very sensitive to their surroundings and families..hope I helped :)

Oh geez--how terrible! :( I'm so sorry this happened. Why do people who don't actually own the animals insist on feeding them things?! Keeping my fingers crossed and sending 'get well piggies!' thoughts their way. It sounds like you are already doing everything you can, I can't add any advice. Velvet ~:>
