At one place I had to use Decon, I couldn't find where you were coming in. Some people don't like to kill them, but they carry diseases and are dangerous to you and your family.

Tami, that is one reason we kept everything in either Tupperware/Rubbermaid containers. Check outside where anything enters, water, electric, vents etc. We too had that problem early when traveling, but we found out the less food, even new containers the less you have those little critters. I also kept small containers of moth balls around the outside, but only away from pets. I kept Deccan inside and that showed me if there were any mice.
If we bought cereal, noodles, etc I put them into containers, with any necessary information either in the container or a special box/file. After every trip, I tried to wipe everything down with disinfectant spray, like Lysol Kitchen spray. Left NOTHING out. Kept all doors closed etc. It is a job.
We did not have the bamboo stuff, just stainless steel. Look for air holes if you have a 5th wheel inside the storage area. No food was stored there either. Yes it is alot of work, but worthwhile in the long run.
Bleach will destroy the hantavirus bacteria.
I wish you the best. Oh I did mention the air vents, found you can get special screens to stop the critters, but not the air.

I dont know if this will help. I just wanted to say i have one of those sonic things and I have not seen any mice in my home since. My sister has the same thing and she die though.

Do you have a cat that would like to spend the night in your trailer?

My son said to use peanut butter. Years ago mice got into Mom's closet and she used PB and caught two with one trap at the same time she even took a pic of them !

We don't leave anything food related in our camper when we put it in storage for the winter. I also put lots of stuff in plastic bins. So far the best thing I've found for repelling the critters is bounce dryer sheets and irish spring bar soap. Sounds crazy but I didn't have a critter at all last year. Not sure about this year because it's still in storage for at least another month.

Tami, I'm sorry you're having mice problems. I had no idea they could get inside an RV. My husband has been talking about buying one and now that I've become aware that mice CAN get inside, I am going to discourage him. I wouldn't sleep a wink in a RV thinking there might be a mouse inside. Silly, I know, but I'm terrified of them. Can't stand to even see a de-con ad in a magazine. LOL

I was not happy, emptying a trap every morning. I learned this here on the GW - Stop feeding the birds. I tried it and it worked:)

Vala, I can't use Decon out there, because they can get in thru such tiny places. One of the rv dealers last year had a unit with a horrendous smell come in. The owners couldn't find anything causing it. Come to find out that they had put Decon in it for the winter. The mice got into the supposedly sealed, airtight "basement", the underneath part of the rv. I do use it in the house, tho.

Marie, I have everything either out of it for the winter, or in sealead containers if it was something I could leave in. There is no evidence of them where that is, tho. Everything was wiped down with Clorox anitbacterial wipes last fall. Will definitley be scrubbing things this spring! We are hoping to go to NC for Merlefest again this year, so I will be starting soon.

Mammie, don't worry about them! It would be no differnt than in a house. I only have had a problem two years. This one and one year when we had the trailer. I also hate mice. And snakes! DH knows he has to keep decon in the garage, cause I freak when I see them! I am sure you would really enjoy an rv if you got one. It is expensive to rent one, but you could do that to see if you like it. We tow a small pickup truck behind it so we have something more economical and easier to manuver for our sightseeing.

Wanttoretire_did, our feeders have been empty all winter. Guess that means I need to cut down all of our pine trees. I'm not finding bird feed shells. Instead, I'm finding the shells from the seeds in the pine cones! No, we won't cut down the trees unless they need it. Only if they are in danger of falling down and hitting something.

The cats were pleased to get four immobile mice, last fall: peanut butter works better than cheese - or raisins. Around here, at least.

Haven't seen any "tracks" lately.

PLEASE don't use sticky traps! As much as you may hate mice, do you want to subject them to a cruel death? Awful - read up on it.

I have cats and I have sonic deterrents. The cats haven't caught a mouse, nor have I seen one or any evidence from any, since I used the sonic plug-ins.

I'm another opponent of the glue traps. Don't like mice but I'd rather they be dead. Especially if it's where you hear the noises and stuff. Just one of my quirks. I do like the windup traps. You can catch literally a dozen or more. I always put poison into the containment area to kill them or I emptied it daily and killed them. Another effective trap is simply a 5 gallon pail of water filled about 1/3 full. Place a board as a ramp and have the boards against the walls. Any trap should be against a wall since that's their preferred route. Nothing fancy. A 3' 1"x2" should be fine. They'll run up there and off the end, into the pool and drown. I prefer that to the glue traps.

The old fashioned traps are effective but only good for one mouse then you have to clean it out and reset it or replace the trap as some do.

The electronic repellers? I tried them a couple times. Can't prove they worked, but anecdotal results - I'd try them again, along with traps.

The electronic things sure don't work on spiders.

Well, they avoid the sticky traps, so no cruel death. So far, it looks like the sonic chasers are working. No extra evidence. I got the kitchen drawers and the pots and pans cabinet emptied and cleaned yesterday. Took everything in the house and loaded the dishwasher! Nice and clean, ready to go back out just before we leave next time.

Using a cat is sort of a short-term, feel-good remedy.

As they eat ... and leave similar tracks, as well.

Question for all: do you figger that stick-down traps ... are mainly used by stuck-up people?
