my3dogs--thanks for the link. I actually found 2 that I like. The Valmont and the Como. They are a little different and unexpected. A friend of mine suggested a clear glass lamp so that it would not block my sign. It will be going in my dining room with red walls and an off white jelly cabinet. If you have any suggestions, I would love some advice. Thanks again.

Wow! From your description, I never would have thought of either of those as they don't appear country to me. How tall is your jelly cupboard? I ask because those are more what I would consider table lamp size, at 31" for the Valmont and 27" for the Como.

If you had a pic of the cupboard and the general area, I think we could better propose options. Although if you do not want to block the sign, I think your iron tripod or a slender candlestick lamp is the best bet, as even clear glass will distort the sign slightly when it's viewed through the lamp. Also, please measure and determine your ideal height lamp?

I like the one at the link below. It's on eBay and ended but didn't have any bids. I'd change the shade for sure. I actually have one of these, with a much smaller shade. I bought mine on eBay for $5.00 in 2007, shown below. My mother liked it so much that it's currently one of her bed side lamps with the same shade but in ivory.

my3dogs- You are so right about the lamps not being country. I was thinking about actually throwing something different in the mix. I don't know how to post links, but if you put in the search box" Need help decorating my country dining room" you'll see my room with the jelly cabinet. I am actually repainting the room more of a country red, am getting a braided rug and a shaker trestle table. The room really needs more light--we live in the woods. You are probably right about those lamps being too tall. Thank you for any suggestions.

Your style is mainly primitive in that beautiful room. If you want the lamp on the off-white jelly cupboard, the fact that the sign behind it is almost the same width means that you need something with a fairly small shade or a hurricane that doesn't block the sign.

I have a lamp fetish....I love OLD lamps, such as tole or Bouillotte style, and I have bought most of mine on eBay. I also like to make lamps out of old crocks, lidded baskets, tea caddies - you name it. I love this little cutie in the link, but you may not like the color. I really think you were on a good track with the tripod style you mentioned, or a set of slender simple candlestick lamps.

Two vintage candlesticks lamps on eBay - may not work with your new red wall color though. Depending on the shades you got, these could have some great looks.

my3dogs- you have been so helpful. Thank you so much! The new paint color is Berry Red by Ellen Kennon and is more of a barn red and less burgundy. I also thought about a floor lamp beside the jelly cabinet but not sure how that would look. The hurricane lamps are a good idea. I love all of the lamps you have posted, particularly the stiffel lamp.

Look at these on my Craigslist this AM. This girl sells things to benefit a dog rescue organization. Change the shades to a color that would work for you, and what a bargain.

Instead of a lamp on the cabinet, have you considered a floor lamp to the left of the cabinet? Ideally, you would move the cabinet and the sign over to the right just a bit, but it would still work as they are now. That will give you much greater light, not restrict the size of the lamp or the shade.

Since George and Martha appear to be on the wall, you could look for a surveyor's tripod lamp to put in the mix. Wasn't GW a surveyor at some point?

Anyway, I hope you will also consider painting out the huge white vent on the wall. The room is lovely, but that is a big distraction.

You could also add a small lamp on your hutch for more light.

les917- I love the idea of a tripod lamp to the side of my cabinet! That seems to work the best plus adding more light. And I had forgotten George had been a surveyor! How lucky for me since I love the surveyor's tripod lamp. Thanks for your help.
